Fans have every right to be pissed off tbf. Players should be ashamed of that effort and performance.

Why play him for only 5 mins, when the whole of those 5 mins he nearly scored/set up a goal twice?

Maybe if the fans backed them fully they'd play better :hee:

Wouldn't have happened if they'd taken Walcott obviously

I dont think they can blame the fans after a performance like that. There were millionaire players out there who could barely trap the ball properly.

GiRTh 27-06-2016 09:12 PM

Sounds like Roys resigning.

James 28-06-2016 12:08 AM

Don't think the inquisition tone on TV after a defeat like that helps England. It puts players under more pressure and play with fear. Just accept you got beaten by better team, players not as good as you think, underestimated the opposition, uncertain team selection, and move on.

James 28-06-2016 12:13 AM

Judging by Twitter trends the official England scapegoats for this tournament are Harry Kane, Joe Hart, Rooney and Wiltshire.

Spurs has entered the mix too.

Shaun 28-06-2016 01:18 AM

Yeah I really don't understand why Rooney's being targeted. He's been one of the few that hasn't been useless.

Sterling, Lallana, Henderson, Cahill, Hart, Kane, Rose and - to an extent - Wilshere, were all useless.

3 brexits in a wake , can we ask for a re play again?

Yeah I agree, I'm sure the players didn't purposely throw away the game, it's sport, it's unpredictable, s**t happens. Just give Iceland some credit and move on. I feel bad for the players, like they wouldn't be feeling bad enough as it is :/

Calderyon 28-06-2016 10:49 AM

They just underestimated Icelandīs potential, went with the wrong strategy and in the 2nd half it was mostly panic and desperation. Happens to the best of them.

Spurs players will give you Spurs results.

Agree with the stick Wishire is getting despite being an Arsenal fan. He hasnt played a full game for us for almost two years so what the hell was he doing in the England squad. Drinkwater must be wandering what the hell is going on Mark Noble must be thinking he's never gonna get a chance.

Drew. 28-06-2016 10:59 AM

I don't think it was a case of even underestimating the opposition. The whole tournament we were scraping through with no tactics or plans going into the games. The manager had no idea what his best 11 was, didn't know where to play his players and basically had no idea what he was doing. This 2 week period is worse than anything i've ever witnessed by an England team before

Have said all along i wouldn't trust those Spurs players filling up the National team and Roy proved me right.. Dier is the only one to come away with any kind of positive impression.

As for Wilshere, unfair to put any blame on the man himself. Even 50% fit he performed better than any other midfielder yesterday

Rooney has been great. He's been one of Englands best players.

He hasnt got the legs or defensive discipline for the position . He's living off his form when he was seventeen. Dier looks much better in that holding position and to play Wilshire showed complete lack of ideas from Roy on how to play the 433 system and and a blind loyalty to certain players. I think Roys loyalty to Sterling is just as misguided.

Dier is naturally a defensive player, Wilshere is an attacking player and shouldn't be playing that deep. Going forwards Wilshere was the only ones trying to take risks, constantly running & passing the ball forwards, trying to find runners and the strikers but the movement up top was horrific yesterday.

We don't see that in this country though. Our fans, media and pundits would rather criticize a player for having a few unsuccessful passes/dribbles trying to create something and praise a player who is happy to sit there passing the ball back to his defenders and from side to side creating bugger all.

Exactly, Wilshire is not defensive minded so why play him there? Again, Roy showed little idea of the type of personnel he needed to play that system. Iceland had probably the better chances in the 2nd half due to the lack of protection Wilshire gave the back four.
