This is the issue really, if it could be clarified what is actually need that would be a start

Mokka seems to be looking for somewhere where people are treated with respect, although she herself used the recent ML platform to abuse SD members in one of her write ups so you know it would be nice to know what exactly is being suggested

I don't understand why LGBT issues can't be put in there if there are subject for debate, or if it is a news story, what is the issue?

Twosugars 23-06-2018 09:35 AM

I guess "anal sex accidents" thread is out of the question
"recipies with cum" hm... not sure
"have you experienced homophobia in your daily life" - a goer

Just seen this and have to comment before leaving.

I tried to do this, so hard. I tried to sort out serious debates and just had it all thrown back in my face by a variety of members from all sides. It was too harsh, was biased (against everyone apparently), etc. Honestly, now I don't moderate that section at all unless I really have to as noone else is online. One of the reasons I want SD seperated from news actually. A news article that generates just yes and no answers is not a debate to me. Actual debates are so ****ing rare these days. And I used to love that section too.

these spaces are in addition to the use of the whole forum
it's not as if we don't create spaces for specific interests, a space for women or lgbt is not really that much different

Personally I don't feel the need for a space specifically for women, if I wanted that I would go on Mumnet I suppose, which I would never, I like to interact with a mixture of people and we learn from each other...sometimes

but that wouldn't change, imo
things would go on as before, except some community-specific topics would be raised in the new section; stuff that is not mentioned now because lgbt people may feel awkward for it to be exposed to scepticism of straight people
surely you don't think gays etc would stop posting in sd or about their fave shows
there's nothing to be afraid of

Crimson Dynamo 23-06-2018 09:50 AM

i feel there is an awful lot of rather thinly disguised shade going on in this thread to over 30 year old straight members

like anyone who isnt is hideously persecuted and has no voice

its ridiculous

and for some reason its coming, ironically, from straight people

you could not make it up

but it would still be exposed, as it would be on the open forum? so what you are saying is they would express whatever it is that is bothering them as long as there were no negative reactions, but homophobia is not allowed on the forum and the mods do a great job in this respect so I still don't really get it if I am honest.

Twosugars 23-06-2018 10:32 AM

Sorry Cherie, I'm done arguing for it, it won't happen here anyway. You can rest easy.

Twosugars 23-06-2018 10:36 AM

But must add I'm disappointed at the hostility such a seemingly simple concept for this day and age has uncovered.
Must wait for rpdr subforum and make that our own.

There is no resting easy, I am not really bothered if it happens or not tbf, I would just like someone to explain to me why it is needed  what I am bothered about is SD and any member over 30 is constantly dragged into things, look at the Poll! that is why I am in this thread I doubt I would have bothered otherwise, and I have already said I think there should be a Ru Paul forum, but like every other forum on TiBB it will be open to everyone who watches the TV show.

Twosugars 23-06-2018 11:10 AM

Dunno why SD got mixed up with it, it should not be in the poll.
Tbh as an over 30 gay posting in SD and chat I don't see divisions along those lines. If they exist at all, which I doubt, they get exaggerated. The only division I can detect is between conservatives and liberals, but even that doesn't hold all the time.
The fact is many LGBT would welcome own space. The question is not if you understand or not, but whether you grant it or refuse it.

And comments like this are why I can't bloody be arsed with SD. Too many people thinking they're above everyone else, telling me that MY opinions are invalid because I'm not a regular poster. In fact, I read every single topic in that section, I just never get involved because I always seem to get some sort of backlash like this. I had a man telling me what I should and shouldn't wear in that upskirting thread and basically berating me for disagreeing. That was the final nail in the coffin.

Literally everytime something happens on the forum SD is mocked and brought into it, for no apparent reason, I don't think Maru meant it but she did this thread a disservice by mentioning SD in the poll and yes it was probably in fun, but it immediately created a divisive nature to the thread, honestly its getting so draining every time...the knitting club which was originally used by a member as a derogatory reference to anyone over 30 and was taken up by those members over 30 as a bit of a laugh is now being used as a stick to batter people which, as if there is a knitting club, as if LT has a gang ..... :bored:

*reiterates my bi-monthly (ha! BI!) suggestion of throwing SD atop a burning trash heap and dancing while it burns*

We'll never get that section to a good place, if it was up to me I'd get rid of it.

Well thats nice, the forum v SD mentality is so boring at this stage, can people give it a rest at all????

You do realise how this comment comes across? You seem to be looking for a section of the forum where only certain members are welcome, this won't happen.

A gay pub like space is what I have in mind, you rejected that already. A gay pub allows everybody in while still remaining a gay pub. You see that as divisive. I doubt I am able to convince you otherwise

What I see as divisive is posts that seem to want somewhere thats being described as belonging to a certain a group of people.

Why does any area of the forum have to belong to any group when the entire forum is for anyone to post in without feeling unwelcome?

I didn't post in that thread, just read it, there weren't too many agreeing with him

Belonging only in a way that say sports forum belongs to sports fans ie you'd not go there and start posting about EastEnders. None of the forum really belongs to us. It belongs to the owner for as long as he pays the "lease".
As said before, everybody would be welcomed but the subforum would be a LGBT themed area.
Puzzled why you still seem interested. I thought you've already dismissed it?
It was a Maru concept originally (wouldn't say no to her version of it either).

I'm interested because its a discussion thread and I enjoy seeing other peoples thoughts on it.

Twosugars 23-06-2018 02:17 PM

Looks like nobody else LGBT is posting for it anymore and the opposition in the poll is rising.
Never mind, a nice dream while it lasted
How about a drag race forum? For the show, not LGBT issues?

Withano 23-06-2018 02:30 PM

It wouldn’t be a ‘only gays allowed’ place surely. All straight people (excluding homophobes) are in the ‘lgbtqqiaap’ acronym anyway.

It will get used, and it will be popular, so i dont really understand why it shouldnt happen. We need some popular subforums.

I've mentioned the idea of a drag race forum to James the other day and its also been mentioned in the admin section by other mods iirc, I think a drag race forum would be a good addition but it just depends if it would be busy enough I suppose.

We are trying also to reduce subforums atm.
