I was expecting a critical success but a commercial success this massive? Nope!

LaLaLand 15-11-2019 06:03 PM

WELL deserved!

LukeB 20-11-2019 02:25 PM

Looks like it’s getting a sequel

LaLaLand 20-11-2019 02:29 PM

Man I don’t know how I feel about a sequel.

Like to me, it’s so spot-on perfect as a stand-alone movie that I just hope that a sequel that could potentially prove to be not-so-good (which is possible) doesn’t mar the shine of the original. Hmm...

Tom4784 20-11-2019 02:32 PM

It really shouldn't have a sequel.

Jordan. 20-11-2019 03:32 PM

Hm obviously doesn't need a sequel but I don't doubt they can come up with something equally great if given the time. Joaquin would be the first off board if it seemed subpar to the first.

This is true. Hopefully if he did ever decide against it once he'd read the script etc the director and co would have the right attitude and not go ahead with it and NOT re-cast. :fc:

Tony Montana 20-11-2019 03:51 PM

I'm mixed on this. Of course it'd be brilliant to see Joaquin return but I'm not sure if it'll be as good as the first. I think they'd need to introduce Batman as I don't think they can go through the character study route again now that Arthur's broken bad. If not that, then have him rise to the top of Gotham's criminal underworld.

James 20-11-2019 04:09 PM

Joker 2: Electric Boogaloo.

LaLaLand 20-11-2019 04:13 PM

Be cool if they picked up right where they left off or just after, maybe Arthur breaks out of the Asylum with the help of the rioters perhaps?

Brother Leon 20-11-2019 05:28 PM

Not sure how they can take it? There’s no Batman or any other characters to lean on and we’ve already had the origin.

Don’t Dress For ‘Joker’ Sequel Yet; Insiders Say Todd Phillips Never Pitched Origin Film Series On Other DC Characters

By Mike Fleming Jr

The Joker sequel news that hit a trade today is great click bait, but multiple inside sources said that while a sequel to the billion-dollar-grossing film is an obvious likely eventuality that makes all the financial sense in the world, at this point there are no deals for a sequel, nor even any negotiations with director Todd Phillips or his co-writer Scott Silver to craft one.

Those sources add that the linchpin of today’s THR story — that a week after Joker‘s opening, Phillips met with Warner Bros film chief Toby Emmerich to pitch a portfolio of DC character origin stories — is as flat false as earlier stories that Martin Scorsese contemplated directing the first Joker (Scorsese was originally going to be a producer but dropped out because of his crowded schedule). Multiple sources said no such October 7 meeting between Phillips and Emmerich occurred, and that Phillips doesn’t want to follow Joker by overseeing other DC character films. What he has talked about in interviews is that when Joker was in its inception, there were discussions of a DC Black initiative. He instead focused on Joker. That was a long time ago. Phillips has a track record of being selective: After The Hangover began breaking records for R-rated films, he did not seek to turn his company into a comedy factory.

No one is saying a Joker sequel won’t happen someday. But multiple sources said nothing has happened yet and that Phillips and co-writer Scott Silver have made no real moves to draft the further dark rise of Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck character, or even to make a deal to do that.

Well done to Joaquin Phoenix on his Best Actor Golden Globe. I'm sure we can all agree this was well deserved. :clap2:

Watched this last night. Thought it was very good, but I still prefer Ledger's and Hamill's takes on the character. I liked the idea of going with his laughter as an uncontrollable condition rather than an annoying trait but I actually found his waaaaay more annoying than the others I've watched :worry:

Anyway, it was good for an origin story but I've always considered characters like this to be the most engaging when they're in the throes of their crimes.

Did anyone else notice this Batman “Easter egg” btw? :omgno:

So bloody clever!!

Joker sequel to be a musical.

The Joker is back, and this time he’s bringing a friend.

Lady Gaga is in early talks to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in director Todd Phillips’ sequel to Joker, the Oscar-winning, $1 billion-grossing, 2019 Warner Bros. hit based on the DC villain.

Phillips has been writing the script with Joker co-writer Scott Silver for some time and has finally shown it to the studio. Last week, Phillips revealed on social media the title of the new project — Joker: Folie à deux — referencing a medical term for an identical or similar mental disorder that affects two or more individuals, usually members of the same family. And while the same social media post showed Phoenix reading the script, the actor’s involvement is not exactly a fait accompli just yet — sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Warners has yet to close a deal with the actor, with the two sides deep into it.

Enter Gaga.

Details on her character are being kept under wraps, but Joker is known for his on-off abusive relationship with Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the Arkham Asylum mental institution who falls in love with him and becomes his sidekick and partner in crime. It is unclear whether Phillips and company are using other DC characters or striking out on their own, as they did in many instances with the first movie.

If a deal makes, Gaga would play Quinn. However, this new Quinn exists in a different DC universe than Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, who most recently appeared in 2021’s The Suicide Squad as well as several other films.

But wait, that’s not all: Sources say the sequel is also a musical.....

I dunno, todays MRA’s are much more colourful than ye olde MRA’s of 2019. You have to keep up with the fan base.
