Sure, we know the same people will get voted, week in, week out, but it's just a bit of fun and if people enjoy it then what's the problem. I don't always participate in the TiBB members nominations and I like having that choice.

If the karma was compulsary, then your argument would stand, but as it is optional, then I really don't see what the problem is. It's something you either want to participate in, or not. How can you police it? Would you put the hours into policing how people give and take karma and what for? Plus it's easy to evade that as well. Say for example an admin asked me to justify bumping up Barry's karma (when clearly I'm only doing it cuz he's my mate) - I could easily pick out a random post and state how good I found it to be.

At the end of the day G, karma is a personal opinion. It's another member's personal opinion of your posts. Just because you weren't here for a few days does not mean that there weren't members online reading through a thread containing one of your posts. Maybe they didn't like it. Just a theory. Obviously it's more likely that they did it for spite, but again, it brings me back to the question.....

"So what?"
Exactly!!

And for wiglet, I was the one who raised the point of reducing karma for spelling. It was meant as a joke to highlight how random the karma thing is and how it shouldn't be taken so seriously!! It was in a thread where people were saying they were turning karma off cos they weren't getting as much positive as they thought they would. My point was, people will take karma off for the stupidest reasons.

And I have never taken your karma off ever, in fact your posts are usually very well written. And I like to see the proper use of a good old semi colon as well!!

I think it's all been said now.

Was that meant to be cryptic Nick, cuz I sure as hell didn't understand it.

If you look through this thread, you will understand what I am saying Stropz

Slartibartfast has said plenty & for anyone looking & reading carefully can understand where the problem lies, etc...

It's usually a minority who worry about Karma & as there is a happy majority on this forum, the "off" button to Karma is easy to use.

I could answer all of this, but for me it's will never be about posts so why bother having it. It's a terrible system. That's why so many people are abusing it.

I give up! You speak in riddles when usually the truth is better.

Look at the sky and the blue sun marks your horizon with a black heart.

The eagle has landed but not in the field.

Why stare out the window when it is the window that stares at you.

One cannot be told what the Matrix is, you must experience it for yourself.

This kind of stuff!!

Read this whole thread Slartibartfast

I don't need to explain to you what you already know:wink:

You know how nice I can be & am trying to explain to you safely, that it is futile to complain about Karma, when no one really cares about your one-man-crusade.

You need to really read this thread all the way through & realise the inevitable:wink:

Just live without it, trust me:wink:

An excellently condescending post as always.

Ive thought long and hard about my reply, and read through the thread again, so here it is!!

The red sun is approaching, read the prophecy and behold, the lion will sleep with the lamb and all the world will be engulfed in torment. The dark lord has returned and let loose the dogs of war. When the mirror shatters, the words will be released and the end will be forever.

Use the force, my son.

You have been banned from giving/taking Karma until further notice.

After looking at logs, and what you have been posting in the Karma thread, it is unacceptable to be giving out as much negative Karma as you are, for no real reason.

It's not a game to see who can get the highest/lowest rating, and that's why I've removed your rights from it.
So now we all know that it isn't a game and it isn't a race to get the lowest or highest score. But I think most people see it as a competition to get the most (otherwise it's pretty pointless) but apparently those people would be wrong!

I'll post my very long reply next:

Slartibartfast 15-06-2007 03:44 PM

I know most won't read this cos it's longer than 3 lines, but for those that do, we salute you!!

Quote:

LOL, I'm honestly surprised at how seriously this whole karma thing is taken!

But I've checked the rules about it, and I don't think I've done much wrong. The ability to give or take karma I can live without but I'm not happy with the accusation that I have given out karma for no reason! I can explain every negative karma I have given out.

Is the problem with the amount?? There have been very few posts over the last week or so that I've enjoyed reading enough to give a positive karma. The vast majority have been yet again another thread on whether bl***y emily is a racist or not, or why is it ok for a black girl to say it but not a white girl. Countless threads on the same subject and then some pratt comes and starts yet another thread "OMG heres teh raesons I so strongy feel that emily is/isn't a racist, I just luv/hate her so mcuh!!!" And then that degrades into a exact copy of every other thread on the same subject. Damn, if I could have I'd have given out more! Thing kept telling me I had to wait longer! And then there other times I could go for ages without even thinking about karma.

Check your logs, look at the posts I gave negative karma for. Idiots starting new threads when there's already at least two on the exact same subject. Stupid posts that are just poor attempts at flaming someone, some pratt suggested I was racist for saying that charley spoke in an aggressive manner. Send me a list of all the posts I have given negative karma for, I'll explain them all.

With the two threads about karma that I posted in, firstly I was having a laugh with doc. Neither of us clearly take our karma scores particularly seriously and we were having a laugh with it. I suppose, on a strict reading of the rules, you could say we were working in a team which isn't allowed, but I think I gave 2 negative karma to him and they were about 2 days apart! Hardly much of a team member!! And my bl***y karma kept going up despite all my best efforts to get it down!

And I have never given negative karma for spelling mistakes!! I was fascinated by how seriously this karma thing was being taken, especially in that thread, and I posted that to get a rise and try to highlight how ridiculous and random it is. People take negative karma off others cos they like a different housemate, that's just as pathetic a reason as doing it for spelling errors! But like I said, I've never given it for spelling errors. Check the posts I've given negative for, there were no major spelling crimes, it's the content that bothered me more. Again, I was having a bit of a joke. Before that post, I'd given out maybe 3 or 4 karma and two were positive (mrluvaluva and potentialsuperstar I think). After that, I had a feeling I'd be being watched so I made sure I could stand over every negative I gave and I even gave few positive!! There was even a couple of times when I tried to give more positive and it wouldn't let me!! (i think one was for one of sticks' posts)

I'm never going to take it all that seriously and you're probably better keeping me banned! If you gave it back to me, I can't guarantee I wouldn't use it in exactly the same way. Maybe if there wasn't all the emily c**p going on, there would be less pathetic posts that deserve negative karma, but there's no guarantee of that either.

I have no problem losing my karma privileges, but please send me the list of the posts I gave negative for. I'll give you a valid reason for every one of them.
As of yet I have received no response
