Brilliant episode, first time I@m excited about New Who since Matt Smith's Series 7!

Morgan. 28-01-2020 08:33 AM

So Chibnall has confirmed that there’s ‘no tricks’ with Jo Martin’s doctor, and that she IS the doctor. And he’s also confirmed that Barrowman won’t be back in Series 12.

So is she the Rani? Master? Ffs I hope they don't mess with long established canon and have incarnations before First Doc...

We already know there are incarnations prior to Hartnell. The Brain of Morbius depicted 8 faces prior to him.

That has since been debunked by never having been mentioned again. Doc One said he was "the original, you might say!" in Five Doctors, and anything following Morbius basically confirmed the Doctor started with Hartnell.

Maybe the other faces were Morbius' previous incarnations, or a glitch. Whatever they are, they don't seem to be "canon"

Oh good, Chibnall is forgiven then.

I don't think "confirmed" exists in Doctor Who. It changes its canon almost as much as it changes Doctor and companion.

She's probably the Doctor from another dimension, then. John Hurt worked as the War Doctor because there was a stretch of time where the Doctor wasn't accounted for but unless they are willing to rewrite the oldest seasons which they've been hesitant to do for the most part, slotting Ruth in as an official Doctor might not work out well without creating a bunch of continuity errors and plot holes.

I know there's a theory in which people believe that Jodie's doctor has slipped into an alternate dimension (effectively making her the alternate reality Doctor and Ruth this dimension's Doctor) at some point prior to Season 11 and everything that's happened has happened in this dimension which is why there's so many strange inconsistencies but it would also explain why we could be saying goodbye to the companions at the end of this season if our Doctor ends up returning to her normal dimension.

Marsh. 28-01-2020 03:05 PM

They'll be able to explain the dull as sh*t companions. In that alternate dimension people are more like robots with no personality. :hehe:

Chibnall has confirmed she isn't a Doctor from a parallel universe.

Haters are gonna have to deal with this legend, period :clap1:

Marsh. 28-01-2020 06:01 PM

The only possible explanation is that Jodie herself is the parallel universe Doctor (along with her cardboard companions) and we kick off a new era with Miss Ruth?

Morgan. 28-01-2020 06:10 PM

Well I think Jodie has been confirmed for S13 so I doubt she’d be leaving

I screamed when she said "do not come for me", we love to see Toya script-writing for the show!

I'm sure after they saw the reception Queen Ruth has received they have torn up her contract.

Glenn. 28-01-2020 08:22 PM

I think Chibbers is just gonna make the Ruth Doctor pre Hartnell just for the bantz tbh

Scarlett. 28-01-2020 08:28 PM

But she has the police box TARDIS, this is what the TARDIS looked like before he stole it

To be fair, the only thing suggesting she's pre-Hartnell are unconfirmed internet rumours. She didn't say she didn't recognise the Sonic, she said she didn't need one.

Wasn't there an episode with sort-of alternative dimensions on S11? Most of that crappy season is literally white noise in my memory  but I think Graham met Grace? And a talking frog could send people in different realities? Maybe in that episode the frog sent them to a different dimension, where Ruth is the Doctor, and Gallifrey didn't burn?

Oliver_W 16-02-2020 02:36 PM

How are people finding the season so far? At this point every episode from this year is better than anything from S11, but that's not really saying much.

It's fine, just fine.

Morgan. 16-02-2020 02:39 PM

It’s a perfectly fine season. Nothing amazing, nothing awful, but to see how they wrap up all the plot points will determine how it ranks for me.

This series has been a very "woke" series hasnt it

Technology hacking
Plastic Pollution
Mental health

Etc

I have enjoyed this series but its trying too hard to address problems we are facing at the moment

Surprising as it may seem from my SD&N posts, I actually approve of some aspects of wokeness in media :joker:

Thinking about it, my general bugaboos are actually overuse of technology, pollution and the environment, and proper mental health care :joker:
