I did too .

He's a genuine and decent guy, as you said a while back he's come through a lot of difficulties in life.

This was a really good insight to the preparation, the planning and incredibly hard work needed to be ready for Eurovision.

Having to master the routine and staging planned by the team for it .

Good luck to Olly.
I really like him but then I have from hearing his first recordings.

I only wish him the very best in the contest.

Zizu 07-05-2024 11:10 PM

The songs I’ve heard so far have been absolute tosh apart from maybe Germany and Cyprus had a nice chorus

These two presenters lacked personality plus these two colours should never be seem next to each other !

shame i only can give 10 points to them, because they easily deserve a 20.0 or a 50.0 or a 100.0 from me

Ireland's all time best eurovision entry :worship: finally lazy RTE start taking notes from TG4 at JESC how to stage a entry and not going for dated entries anymore

I'm gathering that you want Ireland to win Eurovision this year?

Indeed yes Mock.

I'm just going to enjoy the show as I always do.
With family and friends watching it with me.

I'm not concerned one bit as to the performers views on things.
They have them and if they are prepared to state their views however controversial, then I'd support them doing so.

I'd rather know what they think, rather than have them sugar coat their thinking on serious issues.

I myself have many concerns as to the direction and bad way England is being taken down by Sunak and co.
I'm not myself that proud of much the UK seems to be heading to stand for at present.
I'm glad I'm of full Scots ancestry on my Father's side and full Irish side on my Mother's.
My view at present would be I'd likely even re-label the UK as DK
The DISUNITED KINGDOM.

I'm looking forward to a night of entertainment on Saturday with Eurovision.
All the acts will have rehearsed and worked desperately hard to be the best they can be on the night.

I'm sure I'll groan as the votes come in because I fear the UK is not looked on very nicely at present still.
However win, do very well, do fairly well or if he's hampered more by the international more negative opinion of the UK so he does badly.
I know from my knowledge of Years and Years, their number one albums and The album Night Call of 2022 by Olly, still under Years and Years although his solo venture, ehich msde number one too.

Plus his performances and his brilliant acting in It's A Sin.
I know the guy will do his very best and no act can do more than that

So good luck to Olly Alexander, good luck to ALL the acts and hopes for as ever, Sweden presents another great Eurovision musical night.

I agree with you 100%

They're not really having sex though.

I mean it's more suggestive than acting it out as an actual sex scene.

A good song performed well doesn’t need way over the top staging, nor do viewers have to like a country for it to do well. Proof of this was Sam Ryder coming second with Spaceman - and if Ukraine hadn’t gotten the sympathy vote he would most likely have won. Dizzy is catchy enough, but the performance is, well - a bit vulgar….unnecessary really…imo.

I really don't agree.jet.
The staging isn't his work or idea, that's from the team working with him at Eurovision as was clearly seen in the documentary on his road to Eurovision which Zizu and I watched.

I've never been and hope I'd never be a prude or homophobe.
So I didn't see wrongs on the staging.
Not did I see anything offensive.
However as to staging, near ALL the acts had full and in your face staging for their songs too on the show tonight.
Very few just stood and sang.
Eurovision doesn't do it that way now sadly and hasn't for years.

I'm still scratching my head at how Sam Ryder got 2nd.
I'm glad he did and full credit to how he performed on the night.
HOWEVER I do take issue with the voting on Eurovision.
The UK has for ages been the victim of political voting.
So of course the voting is more political it's the only thing that spoils Eurovision for me.

It's a sad thing that voting in a song contest is in any way political or biased as to how votes will be cast.
Particularly by the public of each Country voting.
There's a conflict issue that is wrongly clouding over Eurovision this year.
It is possible some Countries will not get votes because of where their support may lie as to that.

I would hope you could be more right.
That this year the voting will not have that pattern but never the less, what I saw in this semi final tonight was a contest not just about a song and singer
However a contest too as to who could come up with the more out of the ordinary and complex staging too .
Most had far more wild effects and staging for their entries than didn't.

Mystic Mock 08-05-2024 04:06 AM

I mean Slovenia also had a sexual routine, and Cyprus did too.

My point being that nobody has said anything about those entries.

And the Music Video to Austria's entry was wild, so I can only imagine what it'll be like live.:joker:

Plus one half naked female sang “ slight touch “ as she slowly slid her hand over her nether region !!

…anyways…good luck to our Olly this weekend……@Joeysteele…Joey, I don’t tend to watch the entries before the event, which other countries are also standout for you this year…?….

Good morning Ammi :wavey:

Yes Indeed Ammi, good luck to him on an entertainment show
There'll be some he does entertain, others lukewarm and those who wouldn't like him whatever he was singing or whatever his staging was.

I like his story of his life and am a fan of all his 'Years and Years' work which has over the years brought him chart success and number one albums.

I quite liked Luxembourg and am glad they are back in Eurovision.
I do find Croatia's entertaining.
I liked Iceland but it didn't get through sadly.
Ukraine is growing on me for some reason after hearing it last night

As for Olly's 'Dizzy' that chorus has been stuck in my head for weeks now
It's a really strong chorus.

The other semi final show is Thursday.
I'll tell you who I liked from there once I've seen them.

Also as to your Slovenia comment too.
Equally spot on

….ahhh, I didn’t realise that both semi finals hadn’t been shown, but yeah…let me know your thoughts of those ‘best ones…’…when you hear them all…if I get a chance, I might look up the ones you’ve mentioned and listen to those entries…Olly is a sweetheart of a person and I know that you’re a huge fan and will be championing him this weekend……I hope that you have a fabulously enjoyable Eurovision evening, Joey…..

Nicky91 08-05-2024 07:47 AM

Slovenia had a mermaid theme, of course there had to be nudity ;)

they played that very well tbh, this coming from a person who has recently the series Siren in mind

Ireland also kinda a twisted sexual thing going on with their blue demon dancer, which was like a horror film to me, so wholesome :flutter: i'm thinking about voting for them on saturday tbh

Joost teased his entry like ''as dutch as it can be, very modern but also with a nostalgic touch'' and the selection committee said about his entry ''potential to be a hit in the charts''

Looking forward to it, Nicky. Good luck.

I always do enjoy it Ammi.
I've got a good number of family staying with me for it.
My late Mum.loved Eurovision and it was like a party thing in our home for it

We ALL love Olly's Dizzy.
However we love the Eurovision night too seeing ALL the performers.
Because as the half hour programme on Olly last night showed which I and Zizu watched.
It highlighted the stress and hard work over months to prepare for the contest itself.

It gave a good insight to him as the decent guy he is too and his life.

Thank you Ammi and I hope you have a good day.
