i agree with Greg, i mean the CVR clearly had audio of the captain trying to save the aircraft, issuing the mayday call in its final moments, someone who is committing suicide doesn't do that


i believe in my theory of the captain suffered from microsleep and that he touched the wrong controls (fuel switches instead of the thrust levers) with microsleep you have no memory of this afterwards, that might explain him saying ''i didn't do it'' but first officer Kunder asking this multiple times is also a red flag, why ask your superior this repeatedly and why not just put the switches back to run earlier?

also Captain Sabharwal might've had some mental health issues going on, but he even told a security guard to watch over his father as he won't be away for too long, he likely meant with that, he would return home after getting flight 171 to London


he was looking forward even to retiring from the airline, to fully take care of his father, and an elite pilot for air india as he was, he likely would've always been welcome as a part time supervisor at some point for young trainee pilots in the simulator training exams


so it isn't like he had a problematic background at the airline, he also had a decent-ish salary (they had to reduce salaries after cost cutting but still his salary was decent enough)



my theory, we know Sumeet Sabharwal had a strict sleep routine before each flight, however more recently the pilots and crew had to share hotel rooms to save up some money, so this might've interrupted his sleep routine, if with someone who goes to bed later than him, and someone who is quite loud, even the tiniest interruption of sleep, might be enough for the microsleep fatigue, especially someone who is all the time been used of proper rest

it's really sad how a well respected, experienced captain like Sumeet Sabharwal now is painted within the media as someone evil

not just a elite pilot, but also a mentor for newbie pilots, one might presume first officer Kunder might've also been trained by him


since that is not who he was, he always put the safety of his passengers first, and would a man whose 92 yr old father is ill, really commit this sort of evil act


yes his mother recently had died okay, but that might explain his desire to retire in 2 or 3 months from now, to be more with his father?
