.torrent files are not the actual video files. You open up the torrent in a BitTorrent client to download the video file. The video file that you download can then be opened usually in any common video viewer.

Matt will you be watching BB08 ?

I know but they won't play on Windows Media Player and I can't convert them to any other type besides avi so I'm wondering am I able to play them on Real Player rather than WMP?

Are you trying to convert .torrent files? Those aren't video files - .torrent files are simply a way to download other files.

So how do I play them? I recently switched PCs so I'm still finding it hard to discover things again.

Captain.Remy 08-04-2008 09:59 PM

Yeah to get the video you have to download it on either a Bittorrent client...seems logical lol

Matt 08-04-2008 10:00 PM

I think I might know your problem now - provided you have downloaded the files properly. Try downloading the DivX codec. Head on over to http://www.divx.com to get it - that should fix your problem.

If you're trying to play .torrent files and not .avi files, it won't work - get a bittorrent client, like BitTorrent or UTorrent, and open your torrent in them to download the files.

If it's neither of those then I'm out of ideas...

_Max_ 08-04-2008 10:01 PM

Matt how are you watching BB08

MrGaryy 08-04-2008 10:02 PM

Thanks I'm dowloading it now so we'll see what happens. I hope I don't come off as a complete dunce lol!

Yep, this will be my first series - and it seems a good time to get into it whilst all these big changes are being made!

_Max_ 08-04-2008 10:04 PM

Matt how are you watching the new series

MrGaryy 08-04-2008 10:06 PM

OK I Have it. But which of these do I click on to play torrents: Codec, Converter, Player or WebPlayer?

Yes it's the good series to get introduced. Seriously, if BB08 fails then good bye BB Australia, it's the last chance of all ! So yeah, pretty much everything changed...well we all hope !

You should just be able to play in Windows Media Player now.

Without having to convert files or nothing?

Nope.

If it STILL isn't working then the only logical explanation I can think of is that you are playing torrents and not video files.

If this is the case, download BitTorrent or uTorrent, and open the torrents in there to download the video files.

MrGaryy 08-04-2008 10:22 PM

Ok I have BitTorrent and have put a torrent into it. It says its downloading is that what it should be doing?

Yes :)

The torrent is downloading the video file to your computer. When it is finished downloading it will have saved a video file somewhere on your computer - THIS is the file that you open in Windows Media Player.

This is what you should do with all .torrent files.
