Why does it matter who my BB favourites are. Just because I have my opinion so keep out. :nono:

I hope they make this Doctor extra religious, too

Tom4784 16-07-2017 06:31 PM

I'm obviously here for this.

The meltdowns are ridiculous, It's been established ever since Missy was introduced that Timelords can switch gender when they regenerate and nothing about the Doctor's character is dependent on him being male. To be upset when EVERY Doctor is essentially a reboot to the series is silly. The Doctor doesn't have to be a certain age, race or gender.

Sticks 16-07-2017 06:38 PM

Even before Missy, it was established that Time Lords could switch gender, in the Matt Smith episode when an entity took over the TARDIS

The problem here, is that this upsets a standard dynamic.

As I observed before, one of the most angry reactions against this move has come from a woman I know.

Crimson Dynamo 16-07-2017 06:45 PM

im laughing at fans choking on their horlicks trying to justify the end of the whole idea in a pc wankfest of doom

one series and the its cancelled for good

:laugh2:

MB. 16-07-2017 06:54 PM

Yeah, imagine justifying a woman, ghastly things

I can't wait. I'm thrilled that it's Jodie. She was incredible in Broadchurch.

Tregard 16-07-2017 07:29 PM

The really *iffy* sticking point of all the criticism is that every single point about The Doctor's gender can be applied to The Doctor's race, too.

"But the Doctor has always been male/white, it just seems like pandering to the PC brigade to change the Doctor from being male/white."

Once you start splitting hairs on the anatomical fixtures of a shape-shifting alien, you can really put yourself into some deep holes.

This isn't to say the Doctor needs to be all things, female/POC/gay/disabled etc., but these shouldn't be reasons for someone NOT to be The Doctor.

What I think is really interested is where they go for 14. Would it be stranger to go back to male, or to remain female?

Wizard. 16-07-2017 07:31 PM

Why are geeks literally fuming over a female Doctor when they probably wank off to Clara and Princess Laia (God rest her soul)

Yeah I thought the first mention was Missy when she first came into it, but then I was rewatching the Smith era and noticed that one. He's talking about another "legendary" timelord and says something like; "him... Or her, a couple of times..." establishing ages before Missy that gender switching is a thing.

I'm also a bit 50/50 on whether a female doctor will actually work, worried it might feel a bit forced, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt

Underscore 16-07-2017 07:51 PM

Yesss really optimistic about this new doctor.

Time to get Peter Capaldi/Matt Smith/David Tennant in the house tho

armand.kay 16-07-2017 07:51 PM

I'm sceptical a female doctor would work, I can't see her lasting long but who knows I might be wrong...

Also bye at a female doctor before a black one when the girls and boys have been asking for one for decades.

armand.kay 16-07-2017 07:53 PM

As much as I'm not over the moon at a female doctor THANK GOD she arrived after Moffat left, his 'powerful female' characters were getting tedious.

Jamesy 16-07-2017 07:53 PM

I think this is a bit of a risk given the show needs a boost in viewers right now, not something that will split the audience further. I hope It works out though.

With this, I hope we see a change with companions. Either a man and woman duo, or an alien companion. We've had Earth girls for 12 years, since the show is taking a bold move with the Doctor it's time to do the same with companions.

Yeah to be fair I always found that even weirder. Like, not swapping gender made a sort of sense, if he "identified as male" and always regenerated as male... But the COMPLETE lack of any sort of racial diversity is strange. Not even necssarily specifically black, but even a hint of any other or mixed race... Still none in sight.

MB. 16-07-2017 07:59 PM

Well, William Hartnell was black... and white

MB. 16-07-2017 08:00 PM

And Colin Baker was multicoloured!

Lostie! 16-07-2017 08:03 PM

Gender aside, I'm also actually really pleased it's someone I haven't seen in something else, it's always great to discover new actors and actresses and I've only heard high praise for her performance in Broadchurch.

What does Suranne Jones playing the TARDIS have to do with it?

The last 50 years the Doctor has had an obsession with the white population of London, England in the modern day.

He spends a lot of time in the 21st century for someone who can go anywhere and anywhen.

I hope 13 is what Miss Quill from Class could have been

Marsh. 16-07-2017 08:15 PM

Somebody on DS saying "What next? Female Cyberman?" obviously missing the various times women have been turned into Cybermen including Bill in the final episode which aired, what, two weeks ago?
