For the second time in as many tasks, Iris was prepared and vetted by the chief of police and given her tools to take with her on what may be a risky, and fatal, investigation. She shook hands with Aiden, and the two parted. Iris was surprisingly happier to face this alone, and quite aware that a fair number of the other detectives were of the belief that she herself was the killer.

Iris' police transport dropped her off at a disused tower block, scheduled for demolition in 2 months from now. As soon as she got out, the van locked and the driver remained silent and ignorant of her confused looks and appeals. She came to the conclusion that the building was, for now, safe to enter, but something about that opinion wasn't quite convincing.

*scared*

On the other hand, Aiden had arrived atop one of the city's most affluent provinces, at a villa-styled hotel building abandoned once the owner's payments had defaulted.

Aiden stepped out of the van and took care to avoid the large, bushy weeds as he made his way to the front entrance. Once inside, the lobby's delapidated state made itself apparent.

Taking a cautious glance up through the fallen ceiling tiles, Aiden decided it was safe to proceed. He passed the information kiosk and noticed it to be empty; half hoping that the killer would be so kind as to leave clues in such a convenient place.

He crept down a heavily-graffitied corridor, taking care to make sure that no one could leap out and attack him from an unlocked suite room, before coming to a room halfway down - Suite 16.

At the landing of the third floor of one of the stairwells, Iris took a breather and listened out for any footsteps or similar noises that she'd heard that awful night with Harry. With slow realisation, she thought she could hear an acoustic guitar playing in the distance, and decided that this would make much more sense as a clue than a trap. She shone her flashlight ahead and went through the double doors into a wide corridor with old apartments either side. At the far end, she saw a small coffee table and an armchair facing it, away from her. On the chair was the source of the music, and she decided to walk on.

Maia 22-10-2012 08:18 PM

Don't do it Iris!!!

Locke. 22-10-2012 08:19 PM

In before they're both killed and there is two killers :idc:

Kate! 22-10-2012 08:19 PM

Is scared for Mollie

Shaun 22-10-2012 08:20 PM

Suite sixteen contained a double bed and en suite bathroom. But far from a welcome retreat, the room was apparently suffering from mould and a small cockroach infestation. Insects and damp being far inferior threats than the killer, Aiden rationally walked across the room and searched the bedside table for notes or trinkets that may contain some form of evidence, when he heard someone approaching.

Before Aiden could turn around, someone's pair of hands, clutching a thin razor wire, looped Aiden's neck and yanked backwards sharply. Not so much a garotte, the wire cut through Aiden's neck like melting cheese, and within a second Aiden's detached head fell to the floor in a small stream of blood. The killer observed that Aiden's body still shook for a split second after the attack, and with a smirk, left the building.

A huge swarm of butterflies in Iris' stomach almost prevented her from spinning the chair around, but the absence of a human shadow when she shone all around it made her assume it was safe, and with extra care she suddenly spun it and jumped back. Nobody was there.

Making sure this wasn't a trap, she shone her torch in panicked, darting directions and still heard and saw nothing other than this song. Sitting in the chair was in fact a cassette player, and since she didn't recognise the song - a strange, almost Celtic lullaby - she pulled out the cassette and, quelle surprise, found the strip of paper on it to read:

"X"

Realising she was safe, she headed home with a renewed sense of relief.

Locke. 22-10-2012 08:24 PM

I would have killed Mollie to divert the suspicion

Maia 22-10-2012 08:25 PM

And it's very ironic that you were the last person to see his head

Shaun 22-10-2012 08:32 PM

Arista - thank you very much for playing  R.I.P. :(

Detectives, please bear in mind that if Roy Mars III took his reward, he'll be PMed with the right clue. ;)

You've now got an opportunity to make a proper Stab in the Dark :pipe:

Please PM me the name of the detective you believe to be the Killer. You are expressly forbidden from discussing your decision, or even referring to it, with the group :nono: You have until 9pm tomorrow, and if you fail to meet that deadline your votes shall be for yourselves.
