That's a really major concern.
Which seems to either be overlooked or dismissed by those clamouring for no deal.

This wasn't mentioned enough in the referendum.
Which really is, no matter how anyone looks at it, is shocking.

With the fears of any return to violence and even the slightest possible concern as to the preservation of the Good Friday agreement.
If there was ever just ONE single reason to go back to the UK voters or stop brexit altogether.
The N Ireland and safety too of the Republic of Ireland issue should be that paramount reason.

Gove claims the automotive sector is ready for no deal but
TWO days ago automotive lobby chief Hawes said in a press release: "A ‘no deal’ Brexit would have an immediate and devastating impact on the industry, undermining competitiveness and causing irreversible and severe damage... risks destroying this vital pillar of our economies.”

Jesus wept

You don't think it will get worse though when/if borders go up? But of course in this situation even if they decide to put the border in the sea, you will have the loyalist side unhappy and probably violence from there. It will be very hard to please both

How can there not be borders if you leave the EU though? I don't understand that

Oliver_W 25-09-2019 04:03 PM

What borders are there between EU and non-EU countries on the continent?

What do you mean? What countries have borders or what do they consist of? Customs control and passport control, I assume?

I could have sworn I heard that this would be waived for within the "island of Ireland" ? Having these in place would be fine for travel between Ireland and GB.

I was reading about this earlier:
Although potentially you're subject to passport checks and searches of your person and vehicle upon crossing a border, often you can zip across the borders of Northern European countries without even slowing down. Most countries in western Europe have signed the so called Schengen treaty, leading to open borders.

Currently, the Schengen area consists of 26 European countries (of which 22 are EU states): Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden, along with Iceland ...

Custom controls still apply within the Schengen Area

That's your answer to everything to do with this mess.

Benn bill passes

You: they have a new plan

BJ told he can't prorogue parliament

You: there is a new plan

Borders

You: a new plan

It would be actually quite funny if the whole mess wasn't so screwed up.

arista 25-09-2019 04:33 PM

"BJ told he can't prorogue parliament"

UK was out of schengen in the eu, it's mad to think they will join now

I can count only 2 non eu states on that list
Austria and iceland are both in the single market
So that's out unless we have soft brexit
