LONDON - ITV is considering moving Coronation Street back by one hour to the 8.30pm slot in a potentially key change to its 2008 schedule.

Media Week understands that schedulers at ITV are considering the move in light of Michael Grade's recent decision to resurrect News at Ten. In recent months Grade has placed an...

Im not to worried about the 8.30 slot. But that means on monday night when we have two eposiodes we will be going into the 9.00 watershed.Does that mean we will have swearing in it?

Scarlett. 11-12-2007 03:54 PM

Aye and violence, it will make it easier at times, plus the extra monday episode would be dropped meaning that there would be better scriptwriting

CORONATION Street could be moved from its historic start time of 7.30pm.

The soap has occupied that timeslot for the majority of its 47 year history, with an extra regular 8.30pm Monday episode added in 2003.

Now ITV bosses are said to be considering a move as part of a re-jig of their 2008 schedule, which includes the return of News At Ten.

One option reported to have been discussed is moving the Rovers regulars from 7.30pm to 8.30pm on other nights of the week.

The aim would be to build up large audiences for drama series which would follow directly on at 9pm, with viewers staying on for the 10pm news.

Meanwhile, ITV schedulers have been boosted by the ratings success of Emmerdale when hour-long specials have gone head-to-head with EastEnders.

But BBC1 has hit back by launching The One Show, which has a growing audience at 7pm in direct competition with Emmerdale.

ITV said it could not discuss its plans for 2008.

A spokesman said: "We won't comment on any changes until the schedule has been finalised."

What do you think? Have your say.

Actress Liz Dawn filmed her final scenes in Coronation Street yesterday.

Dawn, 69, who has played Vera Duckworth for 33 years, was given flowers and gifts by cast and crew after she finished filming.

The show's producers told the Mirror: "There wasn't a dry eye in the house."

Fellow Corrie actress Sally Whittaker commented: "Coronation Street will never be the same again."

Details of Vera's final scenes are being kept secret and will be screened in early 2008.

Dawn is leaving the soap due to her continuing battle with lung disease emphysema.

Aye, originally David was meant to go, but Sarah plants drugs in his locker at the Salon, which ruins his chances.

Sophie is great, on of the funniest characters on the Street

Billy 13-12-2007 01:47 PM

BigSister 13-12-2007 01:50 PM

Billy 13-12-2007 01:51 PM

I hope not. I think Sophie should get some of her own storylines, but I think Sally and Rosie are used way too much
