UK Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) multiplex operator SDN Limited is inviting proposals for Digital Television Services to be broadcast on Multiplex A. The capacity for broadcasting these services will be available from July 2011 on a nationwide basis.
SDN, a subsidiary of ITV Plc, is the licence holder for Multiplex A, one of the six multiplexes which make up the UK’s largest broadcast platform, DTT, which is principally used by Freeview.
Interested parties should contact Chris Evans at Chris.Evans1@itv.com for a copy of the Request for Proposal (RFP). The deadline for responding to the RFP is 21 April 2011.

Sky plans bid to poach Glee

http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/i...026175.article

Quote:

Channel 4 faces a battle to retain the rights to Glee as Sky prepares to offer what could be a knockout bid for the hit US show.

The terrestrial broadcaster does not make ‘life-of-series’ deals and only secured two seasons of the high-school musical comedy-drama in 2009.
With the second season drawing to a close in the US next month, 20th Century Fox Television Distribution is in the process of striking a new deal and Sky is manoeuvring to grab the teen show.
Negotiations are understood to have begun, with the price per episode rocketing from around £100,000 to more than £350,000. Sources predict that if Sky is aggressive enough in its bid, the price could rise to as much as £500,000 per episode.
“Sky has a war chest of cash that can outbid most players in the market,” said one source. “It paid north of £350,000 for NCIS: Los Angeles a few years ago so it’s not difficult to imagine it going higher for a proven hit like Glee.
“But if David Abraham decides that C4 needs to hold on to it at any price, Sky could have a fight on its hands.”
When Glee was first on the market two years ago it was far from a sure-fire hit, and it is understood that acquisitions execs at C4 needed to compile a strong case to pick up the series.
But the comedy-drama, about a group of misfits who find solace in a show choir, has become one of the highest-rating series in the history of digital channel E4 - second only to home-grown comedy The Inbetweeners.
With guest stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, it regularly records consolidated figures of more than 2 million.
Glee’s best performance to date was for an episode on 17 January, which featured pop star Britney Spears and drew 2.63 million viewers.
If Sky is successful in its bid, it would not be the first time the subscription broadcaster has snatched a hit show from C4. In October 2006, it won the rights to desert island drama Lost for an estimated £800,000 per episode.
Both Sky and C4 declined to comment.
Sky always do this is this good news or bad news? :conf:

Yes

But the Bloated BBC point is showing you the Scale
of the Industry.
Used as a Example.

Sky1HD will do better by giving better funding than Ch4 can give.

Callum 14-04-2011 03:33 PM

I do think Sky will do a better job of promoting it, E4 haven't made much of an effort at all. I think this could lose the show quite a lot of viewers though because not everyone has Sky1. Some people rely on Freeview to watch the show so they'll miss out because of this.

But they will have time to get Sky Fitted
then get the best TV in the World.

Life In The City.

Jordan. 14-04-2011 05:32 PM

The ratings would probably flop so yes I hope they do buy it.

Life In The City.

I don't watch Glee and therefore don't care if it moves to Sky, but not everyone can get Sky TV; we can't get it at our house because of a line of trees blocking the signal; and I would imagine in remote places it's not possible to get it either.
