Billboard

Adele's "Someone Like You" soars 34-19 on the Hot 100 with gains in sales (95,000 downloads, up 68%) and radio play (29 million, up 41%).

but next weeks chart will see the full impact of the vma's and SLY could well soar to no1. It's already slaying US itunes.

hopefully next week it goes from 19-1. That will be the big surge on the back of the VMA's.

Where's the album gonna be? I know Lil Wayne is gonna do extremely well and so is The Game I think....

It's interesting that Adele's 21 is by far the biggest selling album in US, UK and France this year. But the sales are disproportionate;

US 3.15 million
UK 2.93 million
France 0.3 million

Its a good barometer of how poor some countries record sales are. Adele is no1 in France with just 16,000 this week. Of course, its all relative but it just shows that the UK is a huge market for sales; similar sales to the US but just 20% of the population size.

If you look at Ireland you really dont need much. Jedward Debuted here at number 1 (obviously more kids will but it here than in england) I honestly ouldnt tell you how much you'd need to top our charts. but your point is interesting and I will discuss it tomorrow but for now im off to sleep

I just wonder what performing these songs all the time does to her :conf2: if they're as emotionally-fuelled as they're supposed to be then it must be painful having to relive a breakup pretty much every night.

Zippy 31-08-2011 11:47 PM

her voice is obviously suffering with all the performing this year. Plus I suspect she's smoking a lot more with all the stress and pressure of doing shows and publicity. She is very shy and anxious by nature.

On another note;

not only is she doing JR but on saturdays XF there's some Scottish bint singing SLY which apparently brought the judges to tears. So yeah, expect a sales jump next week.

Iceman 01-09-2011 11:22 AM

haha just as SLY was dropping in the charts it'll get a boost

The singers will join a bill which includes performances from all 12 of this year's nominees, marking a first for the Mercury Prize ceremony since its inception in 1992.

Tinie Tempah, Elbow, Everything Everything, Anna Calvi, Ghostpoet, Gwilym Simcock, James Blake, Metronomy, PJ Harvey and King Creosote & Jon Hopkins will also perform.

Adele performing on The Today Show

The BBC will be providing extensive coverage of the September 6 event across its television, radio and online formats.

BBC Two and the BBC HD channel will broadcast the ceremony from 10pm, while 6 Music will be live from the event from 8pm.

Callum 01-09-2011 04:54 PM

21 sold 82,918 units in the States this week, up 3% from last week. I'm sure it will get over 100,000 next week too after the VMAs. Can't wait to see the end of year total for this album.

So Adele has 3 songs in the best song category

Doogle 02-09-2011 05:06 PM

so is Turning Tables definitely the next single? That's one of my favourites. Wish she'd release videos even if she isn't in it just because I wanna hear them on the music channels. It's like she's not doing videos cos she doesn't have to

Amazing, she deserves the top selling album of the year, even though there are a few albums released this year that I prefer. :p

Yes it is. She doesn't need to because her songs do well with just airplay. Kinda lazy though not to make music videos imo.

Doogle 02-09-2011 05:59 PM

I know she doesn't actually need to but I really wish she did. Amazing that she doesn't have to anyway.

-adds to my iTunes A-List-

Adele has fuelled rumours that she will record music for the next James Bond movie during an appearance on Jonathan Ross's new ITV chat show.

The 'Set Fire To The Rain' singer let slip on the first edition of The Jonathan Ross Show that her next musical project would be a "theme", later becoming embarrassed when the 50-year-old host proceeded to reference the iconic spy series.

"I'm going back in the studio in November, fingers crossed," she stated. "Well, this is actually a theme, what I've got to do. Wow, that's really giving something away."

Blushing as Ross started humming the opening tune to previous James Bond instalments, Adele added: "No. It's a concept. One song."

The London-born singer also claimed to have no "interest" in the celebrity lifestyle, and admitted to feeling homesick at this weekend's MTV Video Music Awards.

"I'm not very in touch with the fame side," she said. "I don't chase none of that and, to be honest, it doesn't interest me at all.

"I was at the VMAs the other day and it was a good night out but I felt pretty out of place and wished I was at home with my girlfriends."

Bond 23 will open in cinemas on October 26, 2012.

Watch the full interview with Adele on The Jonathan Ross Show at 9.45pm tonight on ITV1.
