I think they should be tolerant of the differences in newcomers, integrate them properly into society, and then see the benefits that follow. If you look at the heavily religious immigrant families in Britain and America who ARE well integrated (and they do exist) you can see the effect... First generation holds onto it, second generation keeps a lot of the tradition but are more accepting of their children's freedom to choose, third generation starts to become as indifferent to religion as our own teens. They take more societal influence from their friends and those around them than from family. The problem with ghettos of course being that this is lost.
Multiculturalism only works with integration and willingness to integrate has to come from BOTH sides.
