First and foremost they're misogynistic insults that are only ever directed at women (their very definitions denote they're about women too), when as Luke has just pointed out, Kieran, Tom and Joe have talked about sex and the number of women they've slept with, and have not had the same insults levelled at them?

Secondly, I just don't get why anyone cares about how many people others have slept with? Why does it matter and why does it define what kind of person they are? I just don't ~get it~, I've really never understood the relevance it has to anybody's character. If someone wants to sleep with 350 people, all power to you, it's your body and you can do what you want. Similarly if you wouldn't want to do that yourself that's fine, that's your personal preference. Why do we need to judge people for what goes on in people's private lives (I realise on a TV show it's shared but that's beside the point)?

What disheartens me the most is that it's usually women who level these insults at other women. Is the patriarchal order really that bad that you're using misogynistic insults towards members of your own sex? It just makes me despair.

Indeed.

I'm not saying it's the worst insult in the world but... it's still an insult.

People making OTT comments on Facebook and you calling them cat ladies can't be anything other than an insult. It's not a compliment is it? :joker:

But because its directed at a male its fine

A lot who are complaining about appearance insults this year actually posted in that thread..and joined in with the taunting about 'fat and virgin'

Looking back on it now I can't believe we didn't ban people for their attitudes in there actually. I often get shocked at just how horrible members can be when I look at old threads.

Edit. Raph in that thread :worship:

Spoiler:

Awww I liked Jack.

One rule for some, another rule for others :idc:

I thought it meant an older lady that just votes for all of the attractive guys to win Reality Shows.

I've actually never used the term myself, but that's what I thought it meant.

Exactly. Single, lonely older woman voting for all the young guys she fancies. That much is obvious to anyone.

Yes it does but also they live with cats because they're single so cats are their only company which is why they vote for the young goodlooking guys. . Apparantly

depends on how they use it tbh aka the context of it. I call my nan a cat lady and she laughs at it. but i will stop using it now since it can offend people :hee:

So all those times a good looking guy in BB who's actually a twat gets saved from eviction and you say all the "cat ladies" were voting for him wasn't intended as an insult? :hee:

Yeah right? One of the people who are going off at others for commenting on housemates' looks. This was only 2yrs ago, I wonder how much you can change in that amount of time.

Well yeah but it's usage on here isn't playful and good natured

And the "we're not talking about anyone on here" defence doesn't really hold water when entire fanbases of certain housemates are derided as "cat ladies", I recall at one point it being said by someone that Jason was only popular with the cat ladies who spam voted. Well I liked Jason and was perfectly happy for him to win so I'm wondering where I, as a 24 year old guy, fall on the cat lady scale

Yes, it's used frequently nowadays, that's why it's being discussed

out of all the things that are said on here i've only seen the cat ladies term 5% of the time and the rest are appearance attacks and slut shaming. I wish i could be a cat lady tbh.

I'm loving Raph as a housemate but lets not make out he's the perfect member who can do no wrong  He constantly talked bad about BBUS18 housemate Natalie for having fake tits etc.

But that's off topic so lets not get into that

Generalisations can be stupid to go by sometimes as I liked Hughie last year and I think that he was associated as a "gay man's favourite" yet I'm a 21 year old straight male who supported him.

So imo you standout for not fitting a generalisation. That obviously doesn't mean be awkward for the sake of being awkward either.:joker:

on Raph's defence he didn't hate her for having fake tits, he talked bad about her because she lied about sexual harassment which is disgusting and disrespectful to actual victims, he did use that word but thats not why he talked **** about her.
