None of the subforums are needed, thats not the point.

Well it is really, why would it do the forum any good to add an area that isnt needed

Tom4784 23-06-2018 02:39 PM

I imagine it wouldn't be any different to, say, the sports forum. People who aren't interested in sports don't post in there much but it's not like they can't.

Which subforums are needed. I don’t think any are haha. The popular ones are wanted, not needed and this subforum is wanted too.

If there was a poll on whether SD should be a subforum, the poll would be very different to the way this one looks, but we’re keeping that.

I just can’t really find a good justification of not adding it.

We are trying also to reduce subforums atm.

Thank you! Fingers crossed.

Does reduction in subforums have any specific advantages?

I suppose a reorganization may be needed from time to time
It'd be good if forum could react to changing reality tv scene if rtv is still to be the USP.
Contracting or merging underused parts and expanding or creating new ones in line with demand.

Well the entire forum would be a complete mess if there was no subforums, you would have say threads about eastenders mixed up with world cup threads etc so yes most are 'needed'

Not everything thats wanted warrants adding to the forum we have to think of the overall effect it will have tbh.

Well, it would be a complete mess to add rpdr to general chat too? Or the lgbt forum to the music section? So in the same respect the lgbt and the rpdr subforums are needed too? That’s not much of a point tbh josy.

The overall effect would be that there will be a popular subforum where issues, triumphs and personal experiences of the lgbt community are highlighted in an appropriate and designated place.

things would go on as before, except some community-specific topics would be raised in the new section; stuff that is not mentioned now because lgbt people may feel awkward for it to be exposed to scepticism of straight people
surely you don't think gays etc would stop posting in sd or about their fave shows
there's nothing to be afraid of

I don't understand. You want it to be an LGBT safe zone ? Only those allowed in.

Erm straight people are the minority on TIBB.

Marsh. 23-06-2018 02:57 PM

I feel like a good idea for a section, LGBT related discussion is being hijacked by this ridiculous idea for a gays only chat section.

I've posted my points about why I dont think a subforum is needed throughout the thread.

Of course you think you know what effect it will have and that it will be a positive one thats due to you wanting the subforum to be created of course but thats only an opinion and doesnt make it it true.

So far I still dont see enough valid reasons to sway my original opinions on the matter

See I agree, this is where a lot of confusion is coming from, theres been very different reasons posted for wanting it.

I don’t care either way personally, i voted to add it to SD for the lolz. But other people want it, and it would clearly be popular...

It is more wanted than at least half the subforums we currently have, and it will be more popular than about 90% of our subforums, so seems a bit daft not to add it.

Yeah, I assumed the argument was whether LGBT topics should have their own section or remain in SD.

I'm just perplexed as to why my comments that SD should be more inviting to LGBT and female members rather than creating an entire new section for them, were insulted by people who also believe there's no need for a new section.

I agree with this too. SD is very hostile.

I've given up because if you offer an opinion or respond to someone else's opinion, I'm countered with "come out of the chat thread?" Etc etc. Gets tiring after a while.

A bit like on DS when you would be having a discussion and if they disagreed with you but couldn't respond to what you said they'd tell you how much longer they have been on the forum than you. As though it makes a blind bit of difference.

Not everyone who posts in that section obviously. A minority make a habit of it, however.

How could it be made more inviting...you post a thread...you report if someone insults you what else are members to do  lay on a cold buffet ....

No, not safe zone, the same modding rules as everywhere. Just a LGBT area really

No hijacking, just thinking aloud. I believe we have a similar thing in mind and it could be worked out in detail so that everyone would be happy

Cherie 23-06-2018 03:16 PM

I’m running through the handful of SD posters in my head wondering who is hostile TS i suppose could come under that umbrella :omgno: Sticks caused a storm in the upskirting thread but he had no support so why that would put anyone off is questionable

Yeah that's pretty much the attitude that myself and others are presented with too, all the time. Such as, when I posted in a topic a few months ago, four different members told me that I shouldn't comment because I "don't know what's going on". Like I said earlier, I read through all topics, but I only post if I feel as though I'm contributing something new to the discussion.

But you're suggesting somewhere they feel safe from the reaction of heterosexuals or somewhere that is like a fan club where no negativity allowed.

That's not a subforum it's a private group.

A subforum is simply somewhere to group discussion threads of a certain topic.

I'm not sensitive.

But I don't like being told I can't offer an opinion on a topic because I'm a man, or because of my age, or because I'm a regular poster in a certain section etc etc.

No need to get defensive Cherie I wasn't even thinking of you when I wrote the post.
