That's very true |
I think I'll probably give that a miss.
They should have just made a film called "Penguin" about the back story and rise of The Penguin. |

Musical sounds concerning on paper but I think they can make it work. I'm imagining the film to cut between cheery musical and a darker reality depending if you're supposed to be seeing it through the joker's mind or not.

Can't wait to see this. He was so brilliant on the first one.

I do hope it's less incelly than the first one. It was an extremely well made film and Phoenix was excellent, but it was heavily blackpill-coded and they adopted it as their darling.

The first one was an acting masterclass from Joaquin Phoenix. Very well deserved Oscar winner. I really enjoyed the storytelling as well.

In a change from the comic books/Harley Quinn character origin, it seems in this movie that Gaga will play Harley Quinn as a fellow inmate of the Arkham Asylum with Phoenix. Originally in the comics, Harley was a clinical psychologist working FOR the Asylum who gets manipulated and "turned to the dark side" by Joker during their sessions, eventually falling in love with him. The aesthetic of this movie looks stunning, the references to classic musicals (Singin' in the Rain for one) as well as modern ones (I see big La La Land inspo in certain scenes) is wonderful. Very pleasantly surprised after being somewhat dubious about the idea of a sequel, especially seeing as the first movie was really incredible as a stand-alone piece. |

Could go one of two ways for me.
If they've played to their initial... erm... fanbase (the first Joker was/is the darling of incels and redpillers everywhere) and it leans further into that then I will absolutely loathe it. If however they've turned that on it's head and completely subverted it then it could be quite fun. |

…’we use music to make us whole, to balance the fractures in ourselves…’…already just from the trailer, such an iconic quote……as you say, we can see already what a huge reference and significance there will be with music and musicals…?…and that’s something that can be so brilliantly portrayed in using ‘joyful’ song choices as playing while there is real moments of darkness on the screen…as in extremely violent and brutal scenes, you know…while something very light and flimsy is playing…and the visuals begin to change the whole context of the songs etc being played…?…I love that light and darkness and I love that connection of importance there may be with music, which is so appropriate and perfect of it being GaGa as well….exciting… |
