Why would anyone let Mental Health issues be a personality trait?:umm2:

Because essentially your personality is your identity.

He definitely likes to be overly nice imo.

I am always weary of people like that.

I genuinely apologise if it came across as if I was trying to undermine your experience of the system and those in it, as that was never my intention. In fact, I agreed with some of the points you made regarding Ali. Just because I don’t agree with everything you’ve said, or maybe in the way you’ve expressed your views, it doesn’t mean I am attempting to undermine you. I’m just responding from my experience and perspective. I care deeply for people on the Autistic Spectrum, and have, therefore, chosen to dedicate my life to working in this field. That’s why I found it so saddening that you dismissed someone’s Autistic traits as an excuse

People do make judgements on others each and every day, and I don’t dispute that, but judgements can be made with some recognition, understanding and compassion for a person’s diagnosis. Given your circumstances, I’d anticipated that you feel that more deeply than most.

I’m not disregarding people’s opinions about Ali. I agreed with Sheriff that Ali’s traits were less pronounced than in others.
I am just trying to create some awareness and understanding of how the Autistic mind works, and how it can affect someone’s behaviour within social settings. My aim is to give another perspective for people to consider. If it is not coming across that way, then all I can do is apologise, and be more mindful in future.

Only Ali's ADHD has been diagnosed. She has diagnosed herself as having Autistic traits

Aww, Zizu! I love that you do that. We are on the same page. I knew there was a reason I’ve always felt on the same wavelength as you, and why I have always felt I would choose you as a friend.

There are some positives but they are massively outweighed by the negatives

There is no guilt to be felt, Zizu. It wasn’t of your choice and it isn’t your fault. Try to turn your thinking around on that way, and reframe it. Think of the positives for your children in having a parent who can relate to what they are experiencing, show them understanding and provide them with the best coping strategies.

Garfie I am so sorry that people felt the need to attack you for your obvious skills and caring within what must be a difficult life situation.
This is supposed to be a light-hearted discussion forum on a silly "reality" TV show and you do not deserve to be attacked for no good reason.

You also have to account for masking, women do it better than men. It's a coping technique.

I would suggest that the 'parents' have mastered the art of that. I would also say that if you're not very aware of subtle signs it may pass you.

Better diagnosing.... It's quite jew, autism used to be called schizophrenia and they were known as mentally ill patients......a lot of them would bite, you know what they did? They took your teeth out!! You'd be in a psychiatric asylum... I work in the 'industry'.... lve supported older generations and you can see the signs of institutional abuse (guarding their food etc)... Anyway going off on a tangent, but basically we are better equipped to diagnose, although lately you'll be lucky if anything can be done and a diagnosis can take years

Autism really isn't textbook. If you have met one autistic person, then you have met ONE. Yes, there's a lot of similarities, but not always.

It's quite comprehensive.... Then add in co-morbidities.

This is a super summary of Autism and the facts and situation around it. Thank goodness for research and greater understanding - the experiences of the older generation you work with are too heartbreaking to imagine, and just don’t bear thinking about. Discussions like these are so beneficial in raising awareness, and that’s why it’s positive that someone like Ali is on the show.

Bless you, fred - this is such a kind, considerate message and I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness in sending it.

I’m okay with it, though. It is what it is.

The important thing is that I know what my intentions were, and I know that I was coming from a good place. I’ve seen too many Autistic students bullied, mocked, misinterpreted, badly treated or harshly judged over the years, and I’ve seen their pain and struggling first hand, so I stand by my desire to defend and protect those who face such injustices. If that makes me wrong in the eyes of some people, I can live with that.

Sometimes watching BB and the housemates can raise important real-life issues, that should be discussed, and they should have their place on the forum. I think I might be ready for some humour and laughter to balance it out soon, though, and from what I’ve seen so far, you are a pretty good at bringing the humour!

Thanks again, Fred. You’re a gem.

Interesting when Emma was crying Ali came into the conversation and rather console Emma or ask why she was upset she turned the conversation around to herself. I would love to see Ali and Emma argue and see who wins.

Anyone get the impression Ali dislikes most men? I wish Ali would stop doing her job in big brother and just be herself.

I love when the BB forum is active. It is more wholesome in some ways because the rarer people come back and we get to have nice conversations and treats like this...

Interesting.. I was listening to Ali comfort a stressed out Daze ..

All I heard was Daze explaining her side and Ali listening then constantly reassuring her

How odd ..

Hopefully we get to see their conversation tomorrow night

Disappointingly Ali has it in for the boys it seems. And she needs to leave Khaled alone. I truly believe he's genuine. It's barely been a week and she was already turning some of the housemates against him.

I'm hoping Nathan & Rosie continue to think for themselves ,they both seemed surprised by Ali's remarks about Khaled and they both think ( and rightly so) that he's a nice genuine guy.

I really hope this backfires on Ali big time,I'm not liking how ice cold she is towards people especially Khaled. Apparently it's a crime to be the concerning nice guy now ... seriously get in the bin Ali ! :bored: :idc: .

…no, I have to say that I don’t get that impression at all…all we’ve seen of her is in the BB house and there’s only one disconnection with a male and that’s Khaled so I don’t get at all how that could equate to ‘most men’…and she’s been very clear in that she feels it’s because he’s very ‘measured’ and contrived even in his actions and thinking about what he feels he wants to present as a personality rather than who he really is…as emotionless as she seemed in her conversation with him, she was surely being herself and wasn’t thinking about how she would be perceived…if she was then that conversation wouldn’t have been what it was, surely…she would have just said…yeah, it’s all cool and dandy, let’s move on/type thing…she genuinely seems to believe he’s contrived and can’t get beyond that atm to form any sort of understanding with him…are my thoughts, anyway…

I like it because it can mean that we can have more varied opinions that we don't really get as much of during off-season.

Which any member is welcome to join us off-season if they so wish.

We have Politics, General Chat, TV, Movie, Video Game, and Porn chats.

The good stuff.

Ammi 14-10-2024 05:41 AM

…just to say also that Ali is a forensic/criminal psychologist specifically, so negative traits is something she’s highlighted to and looks for…and whether she’s correct or not, she obviously feels that she sees something that jars her with Khaled…just like some in the thread have said that they feel some knowledge about autistic traits and adhd etc because of their jobs…well, she’s also being led by what she feels through experience maybe as well…?…that doesn’t mean that anyone is correct, it just means that they’re trying to implement a learned and instinctive skill set…and we all form our thoughts on life experience which Ali possibly is as well…she didn’t look great last night and she may be in real danger this week but I’m not going to criticise her for criticising Khaled harshly and then criticise her harshly in the same vein…that kind of made sense in my head…

Thank you.

I'm only 33, but some of the stories I've heard from older colleagues who worked the field back then are really shocking.

They'd take your children off you and replace them with a doll.

I don't get the impression she dislikes all the men either.

Can't say I can see the reason behind feeling like Khaled is fake. Haven't really seen it myself, but that's her opinion and TBF to her she was more than happy to go up to him and express her thoughts.

I found the conversation refreshing. She said what she said very openly and politely and left it at that.

From clips I have seen, Khaled doesn't seem to want to let it lie. He's upset by it, which he is entitled to be.

It's life, not everyone gets on
