What a wonderful idea!!!!!!!!!!

But I believe, that asbo's cover litter..... I might just write to my MP to make sure that people are aware of this :spin2:

Lauren 22-02-2008 07:18 PM

Good idea Red! I wish people enforced this however, - and I may follow Kiz's example of writing to my local MP. Furthermore, I also do Conservative Future speeches - I'll bring it up with community support workers.

If people, like you, did not drop litter and took some pride in where they lived then thing may improve. Whilst you treat is like a **** hole it always will be.
Pride in where I live? You try living in my area. Me trying to "save the area" is not going to trigger everybody else into doing the same, I know it's a scruffy thing to drop litter but the area is not going to change because the people in the area are not going to change so therefore, there is no point in me doing it. Yes, it's lazy, it's boneidle, it's scruffy, all of which I'm aware of and I know it shouldn't be done, and I wouldn't dream of doing it an area that was half decent but my area ... you are wondering when the next shooting will be, not the next snicker wrapper being threw.

And Magic, telling people what to do and talking down to them is not going to make them go all environmentally friendly.
And just because everyone else treats it like a mess, you can too? I live in an equally messy environment (since there's seagulls and chip-shops everywhere (a deadly combination ), that doesn't help) but it doesn't ask much to put your sweet-wrapper in your pocket until you come to the next bin or something.

On a general point - I don't understand the argument that there's few bins everywhere. This may be because down here there's more than other places, but I find that hard to grasp...
Honestly? Yes. Why should I treat the area any better than the people who live in it? I don't purposely set out to drop some litter ... I hardly keep a tally of how many wrappers I throw to try and beat it weekly, but I do throw wrappers if there is no bin in sight because everybody else does, my wrapper won't make a difference as the area is a $hit hole as it is.
I understand that - since everybody unintentionally throws things away...like chewing gum or a little sweet wrapper.

But I don't understand the mentality where your rubbish makes no difference. Because it does, it's the act of everybody's neglect...and should you choose to not be so neglecting, then although there would be little change, it's at least something. It doesn't excuse laziness.
So you throw chewing gum and little sweet wrappers away? If you do then your whole argument to me is very hypocritical ... it's not the size of the wrapper that counts, it's what you do with it.

Also, I've not once said it excuses my laziness, I've said enough times that it is a lazy, boneidle thing to do.

"it's at least something"

Like it matters. It will all pile up again if you give it 5 minutes.
Well no, since, as I said, that's unintentional and everybody does unintentionally sometimes. But you've said up there that you throw away if there's not a bin within sight...which suggests you look around and then intentionally throw it away.

And lol @ the size doesn't matter reference
I didn't mention it was unintentional .. that comment didn't come from me.

And no, I don't believe you can unintentionally spit chewing gum out of your mouth or throw a sweet wrapper. You must be aware that you are about to spit chewing gum out of your mouth and that the wrapper you've just finished is about to disapear out of your hands ... ?

Ahh you see I have a solution for that problem which I always do, put wrapper in pocket and when your done chewing put gum in wrapper and throw away when near a bin

Thats what I do anyway

Scarlett. 22-02-2008 08:06 PM

I swallow my chewing gum and put the wrapper in my pocket

It's not me who does that, it's Shaun ... I don't chew chewing gum.

And actually, I think spitting chewing gum out is 10x worse because I've stood in it many of times, at least a wrapper doesn't stick to your shoe ... and before anybody says anything, I'm not justifying it.

~Kizwiz~ 22-02-2008 08:54 PM

LOL.... your right.... chewing gum is a pest on pavements.... and it lasts forever....yuk

Christina 23-02-2008 12:28 PM

I dont really think theres any need to litter.. in most places bins are always provided so i use them and when there arent bins i keep it with me until i find one. I hate it when people spit on the floor aswell!!! :yuk:

People who spit chewing gum out on the floor are disgusting. That is one type of littering I cant stand in any way and cant excuse. IMO, throwing chewing gum on the floor is just as bad as spitting.

Like i said before, thats just a excuse. The 'guilt free' card.
When they could be paid to do other jobs, yeah.
Great idea! forget about the people who are supporting their familys! just make them redundant and send the unemployment rates up!
No. What about cleaning hostpitals, tidying parks, improving puplic facilities. Their are more jobs available in the puplic sector, so dont think by throwibng your rubbish around you are improving peoples lives - because honestly your not.

Hitmen and street cleaners are two different sort of people
Because if you say you can drop litter by choice, you can murder by choice.

It's a powerfull anolaolgy.

PMSL.

And lets open up the discussion.

Litter - Do you drop it?
Does it annoy you? etc.

Conor 18-04-2009 07:57 PM

I drop it without realising sometimes, but litter doesn't annoy me. I dont really care at all about global warming and stuff. And recycling just a waste of time.

How does litter cause global warming? :puzzled::puzzled:
Hmm, I just think its all our job to keep our country tidy... so it annoys me abit.

Of flippin heck......

its got my blood boiling already.

I must resist......

Fom 18-04-2009 08:06 PM

Why would you drop litter on the floor? I always keep hold of rubbish until I reach a bin, and in Manchester... bins don't come often. I put rubbish in my bag if I have it on me as well... When I get home I have to empty it. NEVER do I drop litter, it is dis respectful!

haha same, although I had to laugh at Callums point now. Surely he couldn't of been serious?

Anway - any people getting lots of Litter in there area? We are still getting people through it out the window, and every week the same person on the same day chucks out a bag full of used lunch stuff. I just want to catch him do it one day at throw it back at him :mad:

Some idiots threw loads of boxes in a field gate way... but left there adress! So we reported in to the council; the couldn't fine them, just 'ask' them not to again.

I'm the same, I will put it in a bag or in a pocket until I reach a bin. I never ever drop litter.

I think that its disgusting and am gobsmacked that people openly admit to it.

And in some areas you can be fined for it
