jen people deal with things in different ways and if you look past the media stories and find out facts then it could do loads for your state of worrying as i said i'm a born worrier but i'm not about this its flu people die of flu every year just cos its under a different name i'm far more worried about the very real risk of terrorists/nuclear war than this i'm not getting at you i do understand how people could be worried by this as like i say i'm generally a worrier about anything

i just love the fact that no one has mentioned how many people where on the planes with those infected....

the air in a plane is recylced so everyone should have symptoms...

so if there was 300 people on each plane, then...???:laugh2:

Why would the WHO declare a pandemic over normal winter flu under a different name? It's not in their best interests.

John. 30-04-2009 04:03 PM

imagine the money that the economy will lose if it goes up a level to 6...

public gatherings, ie concerts festivals football matches... all cancelled...

all have to be refunded!!!

Sticks 30-04-2009 04:04 PM

They should track down and arrest every single person who has recently been to Mexico and hold them in enforced isolation.

Lauren 30-04-2009 04:05 PM

Just been someone from the W.H.O saying that going up to phase 5 is just a natural and inevitable step up to phase 6. Basically, it's not if we'll go to phase 6, it's when.

Like I said, some people don't seem to understand the cases in the rest of the World are just emerging! No point quoting the Mexican deaths, they've had it months.

And every single person they've come across? And every single person they've come across? And every single person they've come across?

It's too late now, Sticks. It emerged too late.

Lauren 30-04-2009 04:35 PM

Apparently big events won't be cancelled, even in phase 6.

You need to take off 2
from Scotland that are now better
Fact.

I'm maybe a bit too relaxed about this whole thing, but I just don't think it's a pandemic in the way it's being described as. Scaremongering from the media really isn't helping the situation.

I understand people that are thinking like this, but then you really have to think why the W.H.O would put it as phase 5 going onto 6 if there wasn't anything to worry about. It's in the LEAST of their interests to do this without any good reasons, then again, I think us Brits are infamous for the line "it won't happen to me".

Hugo 30-04-2009 05:49 PM

Wow, its really growing now. I wouldn't say I'm too worried about it as most people are just suffering mild symptoms and recovering outside of Mexico, but I saw on the news last night that it should die down during Summer and hit again, worse during the winter and start killing people, which, I don't really understand as Mexico isn't a winter climate. Meh, it just confuses me haha. Oohh and btw my mum has basically sold Tesco out of anti bacterial hand wash and the mini pocket size hand sanitiser things LOL,

Definitely; although I like to think I'm not being one of those in denial morons who refuse to accept the facts in front of them, I guess I am! I can understand the threat level issue; because of the far reaches that this virus has had, so the potential for a global infection is a much greater risk than it was when it was just in Mexico - but it's only been spread through tourists coming into contact with it and coming home again; and the few cases that have been recorded over here in the U.K. are being contained (although I'm sure there are many others out there that haven't been recorded yet.) My problem with the "pandemic" label is that it comes along with mass panic; which is the worst thing that can happen in this situation. Avian Flu and SARS ended up being nothing to worry about (at least, over in the U.K.) same with Mad Cow Disease and so on. I find it interesting that this has become a "global" issue in the middle of the recession - nobody's talking about the recession anymore; I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but I do think it's worthwhile noting that this happened during the Credit Crunch.

However, I'm not so pig-headed (lolol) that I won't pay attention to the W.H.O's warnings, there is a good reason for them and there's no point in just ignoring what they have to say; they're the experts, not me.

Sticks 30-04-2009 05:55 PM

Why did they let those two people from Scotland out?

Surely they should be detained to make sure others are not affected?

Captain.Remy 30-04-2009 05:58 PM

The European Commission rejected the recommendation proposed by France about EU restrictions on flying to the Mexican outbreak of swine flu.
