The series can be seen as a failure by Big Brothers standards (again bearing in mind it is only Day what 5?), but by Channel 4s standards, I wouldn't say it's in immediate danger.
Don't kid yourself, 1.9 is rubbish for the slot. C4 want 3mil so they'd be better off importing a series or two. BB will not be back on C4 with these figures, they'll just shove the next one on E4 if there is one because I'd be amazed if Endemol and C4 didn't part ways off the back of this series.

It really is game over for BB unless something drastic happens and soon.

Brad* 09-06-2009 11:04 PM

I hate to say it but BB has collapsed. Only a few years ago, BB was averaging around five million viewers per series. Now, BB10 is likely to only average out at around two million, a 60% drop on the figures of BB5-BB7.

Next year there will be no BB on Channel 4. If anything, it will be moved over to E4 and it might only get a million viewers on average during the summer. Either that, or there won't be one at all.

Nothing can redeem the show now, too many people have given up on it.

Last nights ratings 2.2m
200,000 up from Monday but still awful.... big mistake C4 have made to not bring LF back.

Captain.Remy 10-06-2009 08:56 AM

Slightly better but not enough. It seems it's on its way to get better now, I think we reached the lowest point on sunday.

At 1.9m they can take it or leave it because thats about what everything gets on C4 and a lot of stuff they show is cheaper than BB ... and BB is very cheap anyway.

2.2m .... hopefully a sign of things to come. Not great, but better. Now the series has got going and tonight is nominations then it should grow a bit, maybe the eviction will just scrape past 3m.

I think its just a case of getting used to the 'new' Big Brother.

President 10-06-2009 09:31 AM

Tonight will be less than last night.

It's partially up against an England World Cup qualifier for about 15mins.

The 9pm eviction show could get 3m as i know many people who just watch BB on the evictions, but the interview 10:35pm show will not, it will probably beow 2m because it normally finished very early than its supposed. Even in BB9 the interviews were getting 2.3-2.8m even though the 9pm show was getting 3.5m+.

doesnt the game finish at around 9:30pm so it wont be up aggainst BB

Spike 10-06-2009 09:54 AM

On the positive side its an increase and hopefully it could set the trend
On the negative side its just still not good enough and something needs to be done in the next week to turn the series around why viewers can still be persuaded to watch the series as its only just started
Live feed wont make a major difference now, there needs to be something huge to happen otherwise this series is going to fail

Another positive is that i just saw 2 weeks ago's BARB ratings for C4 and by looking at the 2.2m from last night that woud easily place in the Top 7 of the 30 programmes of the week for C4. And BARB has the officials, so the 2,2m could turn into about 2.7m and that would be in the Top 4 of the week.

However Embarassing Bodies got over 3m 2 weeks ago, is it still on? will it give BB a boost? Never thought i would think that Embarassing bodies will give BB a boost

Spike 10-06-2009 09:59 AM

There seems to be some positivity around the series from people are giving it a go so hopefully tonight the word of mouth will help increase the ratings and the show also has a strong lead
Also its nominations tonight, so if they advertise it well and don't announce the results on BBLB today then I can see tonight doing around 2.5million

Well they don't attract the same audience anyway and it shouldn't effect the BB ratings average too much because it will be over before the first ad break of BB

Tom 10-06-2009 10:26 AM

Its only a qualifier though, they only usually do okish

Billy 10-06-2009 10:43 AM

2.2mil is still better than Monday, still not really any good but it's better than I expected at least.
(Was an amazing show last night though)

It will have some effect because the last qualifier peaked at 9 million near the end. And they do have a similar young male audience.

We'll see tomorrow... I bet it'll be lower than 2.2m

You call a 7m+ average, 9m peak okay?

For an England football match, yes.

When its the actual world cup it gets about double that

Of course it gets more in a World Cup match.

But nearly 8 million viewers is still good generally, and will effect other channels' ratings.

You should have elaborated in your previous post if you were just comparing it to the World Cup finals matches.

Tom 10-06-2009 11:40 AM

All I'm saying is people aren't too fussed yet except the hardcore footie fans (which there are a lot of) so even though a lot will watch it won't feel like everyone is watching if that makes sense? Plus because its only a qualifier it will be made up mainly of men, and BB mainly of women so ... it will impact but not a lot. It'll probably get a similar figure to last night again, I think its found its level now.

Stentionhouse 10-06-2009 01:12 PM

Last night's viewing figure was once again record breaking - lowest ever for a Tuesday, against no significant competition, despite it being a (comparatively) decent show.

yes it was a decent show, actually it was a very good show, just a shame that C4 cant see that LF being axed is disruspting the newspapers putting news stories on their papers, meaning less people are knowing about the news on the newspapers= Bad ratings.

And i do believe that it will be sub 2m tonight because i do think that mainly men are watching this series, what ahve teh girls got? nothing, thats why they need good looking guys. And the match is going to take away quite a lot from BB, if it doesnt then i will be shocked.

Tom 10-06-2009 01:31 PM

The newspapers aren't short of stories though, The Sun and Daily Star are the main two and they're still printing as much about BB as ever ... as is Heatworld

I think the problem is a combination of the staggered start, no typically fit men, boring/'seen it all before' launch, BB having its day as a main stream show (cult is the future if its to continue) and going hand in hand with cult is live streaming ...

Best thing that could happen is for BB to either drop down to E4 or go to somewhere like Sky where most of the loyal fans will follow ... it would be getting about half its ratings now and being seen as a success, it would be out of the spot light (moreso on E4, Sky1 is seen as a mainstream channel oddly enough) and no comparisons to what it used to get.

It just needs a fresh start.

What utter rubbish.

The Sun used to have pages and pages of Big Brother stuff before in a special section. Recently I've seen it downgraded to 2 pages.

The Times used to write blogs about the show every single day, even during BB9. Now there's been no blog since launch night.

The Daily Star had nomination results as the main headline on their front page last year. Now it's a little section of the left of their front page.

It's nowhere near getting the publicity it has been in the past, even compared to last year.

Heat Magazine is down as well for sure. It's done very few updates compared to before. I remember very clearly that Heat used to do so many updates about BB - they were the first magazine to really capitalise on BB. Even during BB8 and BB9 they did their fair amount of news updates. But BB10 has been poor in comparison.

Deffenatly, news papers are a big part of the ratings!
I remember in BB9 when I was on Hoilday in Spain they sold the Daily Star over there and It always Had BB On its front page and I relied so much on it to give me the news of what was happening, if it wasnt for that I wouldnt of known luke was evicted...

But now all the newspapers cant be arsed writing about BB10 Why?
