Novo Rules Out 'Gers Exit

Quote:

Nacho Novo hopes to become a regular starter in the Rangers side next term and would like to stay at Ibrox until he retires.

The Spanish forward has been with the club since 2004 but has fallen down the pecking order after a season blighted by injuries.

He came off the substitutes' bench to score a spectacular winner in Saturday's Scottish Cup final against Falkirk and has now set his sights on a long future with Walter Smith's side.

The 30-year-old's contract expires next summer and there has been reported interest from clubs across the continent, including Deportivo La Coruna.

However, Novo admits it would break his heart to ever leave Rangers and he is keen to stay and play a more important role.

"I don't know how it will feel when it's my time to leave. I feel so much for this club I would die for it. It's as simple as that. And I'm not just saying that - I actually mean it," Novo told the Daily Record.

"Some people might say things like that just to sound good but I'm straightforward. I never want to leave this place. The fans are the best in the world and I just love playing for them. If I got my way then I would retire here. I never want to be anywhere else.

"Yes sometimes it's hard for me when I'm not playing many games but I am the kind of person who never gives up. I want to prove to the manager that I should be playing."

Novo is convinced he still has a lot to offer Rangers but accepts that it could be difficult for him to become a permanent fixture in the team again.

"This year has not been the best for me. I have not played so much and I got injured at a bad time. I have found it hard and, if I'm honest, that worries me a little bit. I worry that it might be the same next season," he explained.

"I know if I get a regular chance I'll score goals for this club. I've proved that and I want to prove it again.

"I understand it's going to be another fight for me next year but I'm happy with that. It's good for players to know they can take nothing for granted - they have to go out there and earn it."

andyman 01-06-2009 11:32 AM

The Pro Evo games have better play skill, but since the PS3 move it has lost it's touch, fifa 09 has that old pro evo feel, maybe thats why it is a huge hit, better than fifa 08.

30stone 01-06-2009 11:56 AM

Fifa 08 was annoying much harder to attack.

I think its stupid how if you run into a defender 100% of the time th defender gets the ball, yet when im defending i get it like 80%

Sunderland near Bruce appointment

Quote:

Sunderland moved a step closer to appointing Steve Bruce as their new manager after agreeing a compensation fee with Wigan chairman Dave Whelan.

Bruce, 48, was given permission by Whelan to speak to the Black Cats about their vacant managerial post last week.

Whelan wanted the £3m back he paid Birmingham to release Bruce from his St Andrew's contract in 2007.

With the compensation package agreed it is now just a matter of Sunderland agreeing personal terms with Bruce.

Officials from the north east club are believed to be in Portugal - where Bruce is on holiday - to thrash out personal terms.

Bruce, who started his second spell in charge at Wigan in November 2007 after Whelan paid Birmingham £3m to secure his services, guided the Latics to 11th in the Premier League this season.

American investor Ellis Short, who bankrolled the club's summer transfer spending in 2008, has confirmed that he is to assume 100% control of the club.

The Black Cats were strongly linked with Gordon Strachan, who resigned as Celtic manager on 25 May, prior to focussing on Bruce.

Bruce started his managerial career at Sheffield United in 1998 and has since been in charge of Huddersfield, Crystal Palace and Birmingham in addition to two spells at Wigan.

Whelan meanwhile insists he has nobody specific in mind as a replacement if Bruce agrees to the switch.

"It's not something I do," he said. "I just wait to see what the outcome is and then face reality.

"If we've got to get a new manager, we'll advertise and we'll have 20 applications in and there will be some good lads among them."

Celtic want boss Martinez

Quote:

Celtic have made an official approach for Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez.

Swansea confirmed to BBC Sport Wales that the Scottish giants have asked to speak to Martinez about becoming Gordon Strachan's successor at Celtic Park.

"I had a call off their chief executive [Peter Lawwell] making me aware that they'd like to talk to Roberto," said Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins.

"Like I've always done I refused that until I've spoken to Roberto myself and talked things through."

Martinez, one of British football's youngest managers at 35, has earned rave reviews for his handling of Swansea.

Promotion from League One was followed last season by a highly creditable eighth-place finish in their first year back at Championship level.

That success has been achieved through an exciting brand of attacking, skilful football that has seen the Spaniard linked with managerial jobs at the likes of Wigan and Real Sociedad, while Reading are also thought to be admirers.

Martinez is on holiday in Ibiza at the moment but Jenkins expects his prize asset to be back at the Liberty Stadium later this week.

"I'll probably speak to him [Martinez] between now and Wednesday but later on in the week he'll be back home to run through his thoughts with me," Jenkins added.

"First and foremost it's about his position here and how we see that, and we'll consider all that first before any sort of what else he may do.

"I think you've got to respect... what type of club Celtic are and what opportunities exist - perhaps not in the [Scottish Premier] League but certainly in the Champions League - and the size of the club.

"Naturally I suppose that interest would require anybody to sit and consider their position.

"It's basically up to him how he sees it, I think there's certainly no possibility in us forcing any issue.

"Roberto has got to consider his future and where his commitment lies."

Martinez is no stranger to football north of the border, having played for Motherwell in the 2001/2 season, while his long-term girlfriend is Scottish.

Strachan, who left Celtic Park last week after four years at the helm, is believed to have recommended Motherwell's Mark McGhee as his successor.

Everton manager David Moyes has ruled out any return to Scotland at the moment.

But Croatia coach Slaven Bilic has expressed his interest in the vacancy, while West Brom's Tony Mowbray and Burnley's Owen Coyle are also thought to be candidates

Bit of a weird (and somewhat laughable ) choice of manager by the hoops.

30stone 01-06-2009 01:15 PM

My first game on world class on fifa 09

I won 3 - 2

Should have been 3 - 1.

In the 89th minute my goal keeper rolled it when i pressed square, right to the opposite team about 2 metres from him.

Square is a big kick up field btw..
