Hit animated comedy The Simpsons is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a competition to create a new character.

The new Springfield resident will appear in an early 2010 episode, also feauturing Coldplay's Chris Martin.

The contest, open for just one week, promises the winner a trip to Los Angeles to work with the show's producers and the animation director.

Submissions should be "pithy and funny" with a "typical Simpsons overbite", said executive producer Al Jean.

No. They're still an OK band though. For me they stopped being the Sugababes when Mutya left ... it was the second line up that are the Sugababes in my eyes .... but with the new line up, say someone downloads one of the songs by the original three, who gets paid?

Hip-hop clubs have come under police scrutiny after a rethink of a strategy to prevent violence at music events.

There had been strong objections to the Metropolitan Police's use of Form 696, used to gather details of promoters and performers.

It has now been changed so as not to be "primarily" aimed at live music.

It will in future focus on "large promoted events between 10pm and 4am which feature MCs and DJs performing to recorded backing tracks".
