http://uk.askmen.com/top_10/sports/t...allers_10.html

Askmens top 10 most hated Premiership Footballers.

No.10 - Kevin Davies
Why: Despite playing as a striker, Davies has still managed to cultivate a reputation as one of the dirtiest players in Premier League football history, and the stats seem to back that up: in three seasons between 2004 and 2006 he committed more fouls than any other player in the league.

No.9 - Emmanuel Adeybayor
Why: Togo star Emmanuel Adeybayor is perhaps the most puzzling name on this list. Since the Arsenal striker seemingly has no beef with Arsenal's rival fans, we have to put his inclusion on this list down to his often fraught relationship with the Arsenal supporters themselves.

No.8 - Rio Ferdinand
Why: A bit harsh we reckon, but Rio Ferdinand, who is considered one of the best defenders in the world game, probably gets more stick for his non-football antics than what he gets up to on the pitch.

No.7 - Gary Neville
Why: The fact that he's spent his entire career at Manchester United and is the captain of the club football fans love to hate probably doesn't help Gary Neville stay off lists like this, but his perceived arrogance and strong opinions makes him a prime figure of hate.

No.6 - Didier Drogba
Why: One of the Premier League's most deadly strikers is also one of the most despised thanks in no small part to his tendency to dive at the drop of a hat, in spite of his impressive physique. The image of him shrugging his shoulders and pleading his innocence to referees is one that sticks in the mind of many football fans across the country.

No.5 - Craig Bellamy
Why: Welsh international, Craig Bellamy's lack of popularity in the game stems from his confrontational style of play, and despite his undeniable talent, the fact that he's been at seven clubs in eight years says a lot about him. In 2004 he fell out publicly with then-Newcastle manager, Graeme Souness after refusing to play out of position for the team.

No.4 - Ashley Cole
Why: Former Arsenal player Ashley Cole was once considered the best left-back in the world. When he moved to Chelsea in 2006 he doubled his money, while his reputation took a nose-dive. Considered one of the game's greatest whingers, public opinion of him hit an all-time low after allegations of his cheating on wife Cheryl Cole came to light.

No.3 - Joey Barton
Why: A one-man controversy magnet, Joey Barton has made a habit of creating enemies among team-mates, opposition players and fans alike. His snarling style of play more than occasionally spills over the disciplinary line and we're only surprised he hasn't featured higher on this list.

No.2 - El-Hadji Diouf
Why: Tenacious and comitted on the pitch, El Hadji Diouf feeds off his reputation as the panto-style villain of Premiership football, whose perceived diving antics make him a victim for crowd abuse. And then there's one simply unforgivable factor: his off-key dress sense.

No.1 - Christiano Ronaldo

Why: Well, you must have guessed. World and European Footballer of the Year he may be, but Christiano Ronaldo is also widely recognised as the least likeable character in the English game by some stretch. Whether that's down to his tendency for going to ground like a fairy, his constant berating of teammates, or his sarcastic clapping of referees when decisions don't go his way, his status as the most hated is seemingly unchallenged.

Im Surprised Lampard didn't make it one there for unknown reasons to me loads of people don't like him, And a lot of people don't like Rooney.

Gerrard's plea to Barry to join Liverpool

STEVEN Gerrard has reiterated his desire to see Villa midfielder Gareth Barry make the move to Liverpool this summer.

Gerrard issued a “come and join us” plea to Barry during England’s end-of-season trip to Trinidad 12 months ago only for Liverpool to stall on meeting Villa’s £18million asking price.

Now Barry is about to enter the final year of his current contract and Villa manager Martin O’Neill has offered Barry an £80,000-a-week deal with a testimonial.

But the likelihood is that he will end his 11-year stay with Villa and move on for around £10million.

Liverpool are still keen but are not thought to be at the top of Barry’s preferred destinations following Rafa Benitez’ preference for playing the England midfielder at left-back or left-midfield at Anfield next season in what is a crucial World Cup year.

Manchester City and Tottenham are waiting to pounce for Barry while Arsenal could also make a play.

Gerrard though is not giving up hope of reuniting the partnership that has flourished under Fabio Capello ahead of the World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan on Saturday.

He said: “Would I still like to see Gareth Barry join Liverpool? Yes. He is a top player. Top players improve your team and squad. He is a Liverpool type of player.

“He is very clever but he is still an Aston Villa player and I don’t want to disrespect Martin O’Neill. If it happens, then great.

“If it doesn’t, hopefully we get players in of Gareth’s standard.

“When you watch Villa, Gareth is their main man, their captain, their leader. He scores good goals, creates chances. I’ve enjoyed working with him at England.”

Owen negotiates deal with Everton, Chelsea target £19m Brazilian sensation

Michael Owen to Everton
Back in April, The Daily Express claimed the Toffees were after the charismatic Newcastle striker, and the rumour has resurfaced today in The Mirror. Apparently, Owen has entered negotiations and has been offered £50k-a-week to sign up on a free transfer. £50k? He wouldn’t get off the injury table for any less than £100k at St James’ Park!

Alexandre Pato and Glen Johnson to Chelsea
As if taking their manager wasn’t bad enough, The Sun believe Chelsea have offered Milan £30m to steal away 19-year-old Brazilian wunderkind and webcam fan Pato. Apparently, the smokey Italian is also interested in reintroducing Glen Johnson to the Cobham fold too.

Nicolas Anelka Urges Chelsea Not To Sell Didier Drogba
The France international striker believes the duo have forged a good partnership in attack...

Nicolas Anelka has opined that Chelsea would be making a big mistake if they decide to cash-in on Didier Drogba during the close-season.

The Ivory Coast international recently affirmed his desire to stay put at Stamford Bridge.

However, it has been reported that the Blues have grown tired of the 31-year-old's antics, most notably his sending off in the 2008 Champions League final, and the rant aimed at Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo following the defeat to Barcelona in the semi-final of the same competition this season.

According to British tabloid The Daily Mail, the former Marseille star has just 12 months remaining on his current contract, so the Blues are looking to sell him now, and possibly replace him with Valencia's David Villa.

However, France international Anelka believes that the pair have finally forged a good understanding in attack, and feels it would be a huge loss to the west London club if Drogba were to leave.

"I want Didier to stay," Anelka told The London Evening Standard.

"We have had to wait one year to start together but we have shown in the last few months that we can play well as a partnership.

"This is good for the new manager and the club. They know we can play with two strikers.

"Opposition defences don’t like playing against us and he helped me finish as the Premier League’s top scorer in the final few weeks.

"We are not just focused on our own goals, we put the club first. I’m not the chairman or manager and they are going to buy players anyway, but we’re strong.

"We can bridge the gap to United next season. We have a big squad, with big players, we just need to concentrate on next season and play like we did."

Everton and Aston Villa keen on £5m defender
June - 2 - 2009

It has been reported that both Everton and Aston Villa are considering a bid for the £5m-rated Sheffield United defender Kyle Naughton.

Sheffield boss Kevin Blackwell is having a clear-out prior to a complete rebuild of his squad as he prepares for another assault on promotion from the Championship, and he needs to sell Naughton to help fund his new acquisitions.

The Daily Mirror says that both Everton and Villa are interested in the highly promising 20 year-old, and are expected to place bids shortly.

Sheffield United are believed to be willing to accept £2.5m in cash with the rest in add-ons if he makes it to their first team.

Spurs, Hammers, Everton & Villa chase Barca star?
12:23 PM 02 June, 2009

Arnor Gudjohnsen, the father and agent of Eider, claims that the 30-year-old Iceland international could return to the Premier League.

Spurs, West Ham United, Everton and Aston Villa are all thought to be interested in the Barcelona star.

"Eidur is seriously studying the possibility of a summer departure," the player's father stated.

"We have contacts with English clubs, but also with Greek, Turkish and Russian. We have not met with any French club yet.

"However, if a big club like Bordeaux, Lyon or Marseille show an interest, Eidur would obviously be attracted."

Rio Ferdinand has withdrawn from the England squad to face Kazakhstan because of injury and Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill has been called-up.

Ferdinand has failed to shake off a calf injury in time for Saturday's World Cup qualifier but could return for the game against Andorra next week.

Left-back Ashley Cole, who picked up a knock on Saturday, has trained ahead of the trip to Almaty and should play.

Coach Fabio Capello turned to Cahill following an injury to Phil Jagielka.

Ferdinand was an injury doubt ahead of the Champions League final in which United were beaten 2-0 by Barcelona on 27 May.

The central-defender had been sidelined for three weeks prior to the game.

Arsene Wenger has been linked with a £16million bid for the Liverpool midfielder, and the Gunners skipper would love to see his Spanish compatriot head to the Emirates Stadium.

"We have lost big players, but the boss knows what he is doing," said Fabregas. "The days of signing a new player aren't finished. We need someone in the middle to make a difference.

"I think that is all we need. The rest is perfect. Xabi Alonso would be great. He's experienced and can score goals. I'm sure the boss is aware of that fact."

Benayoun: I've received offers but I want to stay at Liverpool

Liverpool's Israeli winger Yossi Benayoun says he has received offers from clubs in both England and Spain but is not considering leaving Anfield. Benyoun has had his best season to date since moving from West Ham, scoring nine times in 42 appearances in all competitions. And he claims this has attracted interest from rival clubs, but says he wants to sit down with Liverpool and discuss his future, stating he wants to stay at the club.

"This has been the best season of my career," Benayoun told Israeli radio. "I have played a lot of games and scored some important goals, and I am very happy with that.

"At the moment, I am a Liverpool player, and unless something surprising happens, I will remain one. But after such a good season, I have had some offers from England and Spain.

"You have to give that some consideration, so there will probably be some discussions with Liverpool."

And despite accepting he will never be seen as one of the first names on Rafael Benitez, the 29-year-old is happy to remain on Merseyside.

He added: "I have had a great two years at Anfield and enjoyed every minute. I have long since accepted that, with one or two notable exceptions, there is no such thing as an automatic choice at Liverpool.

"Unless you are Steven Gerrard, you are going to sit out one or two games, but that is no problem. Stevie is exceptional, and the rest of us accept that.

"The good thing is, I have been playing more, and I hope it continues that way. To be honest, it could be Real Madrid knocking on my door, and I would still rather stay at Liverpool four more years."

Michael Ballack can't wait to work with Carlo Ancelotti after signing new Chelsea deal

Chelsea have confirmed Michael Ballack has agreed a contract extension tying him to the club until June 2010.

The Germany midfielder moved to Stamford Bridge from Bayern Munich in 2006 and has won two FA Cups and a Carling Cup in his time in the capital.

Ballack, 32, told the club's official website: "I am very happy to be staying at Chelsea for one more year as it was always my intention to play in London at least until the World Cup in 2010.

"We had a fantastic end to the season, winning the FA Cup, and we are all looking forward to taking this success into the new season under Carlo Ancelotti, our new manager."

A Chelsea statement added: "Michael has been a key member of our team for three years so we are naturally very happy that we have agreed the extension."

Barry has gone !!!!!!!!

Man City snap up Barry for £12m
Gareth Barry
Barry had been with the Villa Park outfit since 1997

Manchester City have completed the signing of England midfielder Gareth Barry from Aston Villa for £12m.

The 28-year-old was linked with a move to Liverpool last summer but ended up staying at Villa Park, helping them to a sixth-placed finish in the league.

Barry has spent his entire career at Villa, playing over 400 games for the Midlands outfit and scoring 52 goals.

He has won 29 caps for England and is in the squad for World Cup qualifiers on Saturday and next Wednesday.

City's owners, the Abu Dhabi United Group, are expected to embark on a spending spree this summer but the fact that Barry has joined Mark Hughes' side still comes as a surprise.

Barry claimed that his main reason for wanting to leave Villa in 2008 was to play Champions League football.

But City finished six places and 22 points behind this season's top four in the top flight, all of whom qualify for Europe's elite club competition.

City will not even contest the Uefa Europa League after Everton, Villa and Fulham took the three places available to English clubs.
