Is David Getting a Raw Deal by BB Fans Due to Unjust Discrimination?

David's a warm hearted, outgoing, sociable party guy who came into the house to fulfill a life's ambition and to make his family/friends proud. He is very genuine and sincere, especially to his friends who he treats with top loyalty. You can tell that he cares about people and is interested in people.

He has good intentions and good morals, the fact that he befriended Lisa despite knowing full well that she was unpopular in the outside world, is a big indicator that he judges people on the merits he sees, rather than being foolishly led by crowds and trying to ride to the final and whatnot.

I personally think people are discriminating because he isn't articulate, he's from a relatively common background, he has a broad Yorkshire voice that appears quite loud and abrupt, and he loves food. He's not a particularly innovative character and that's why I believe he's getting a raw deal, people seem to value posh voices/education/articulation/fancy styles/weird characters more.

Why should he have less fans than e.g.) Bea, who treats people like garbage, is utterly awful and totally up herself? David is honest, loving, sincere and sociable. He shouldn't get discriminated against because he isn't as posh, wealthy and articulate as Bea. Or because he's not hippy-esque.

People should help him out here and help to SAVE HIM this Friday. He adds a lot of value to that house, especially regarding positive and good karma. He's a very positive guy and has a big heart to boot!

I like him, but i dont feel there is any sort of discrimination going on...

MissKittyFantastico 07-08-2009 01:59 AM

I think a lot of people are disliking David due to his association with Lisa, much the same as people going off Siavash as soon as he got involved with Noirin, and Isaac because he was Noirin's ex. Also Freddie since he has got close to Bea.

When HM's new or old start to associate with other HM's that are hated, you'll usually see their popularity dip by some measure.

I agree with what you say about David btw, he may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but that's no reason to dislike him. I find him to be kind hearted, generous and generally very likeable.

I want to see him stay.

David is lame. The discrimination is just.

AhmedFan2004 07-08-2009 02:00 AM

He doesn't get judged on his heart or his merit, he's a big voice and has presence in there. He's got involved, so he's not anonymous, like Hira.

Why did Bea have popularity the time she entered the house? Being posh, wealthy, articulate and hippy-like in a dress seemed to gain support instantly. Why should accent, culture and style, matter much?

If David spoke in a posh accent, was wealthy and better articulated, he'd have a big fanbase. He's getting hard done by. Bea deserves jack all. She has zero loyalty and empathy for others, unlike Big D.

luminoussun 07-08-2009 02:01 AM

well thats sorted that out then

AhmedFan2004 07-08-2009 02:02 AM

Why is his fanbase so small then? Hira is invisible yet has a bigger fan base.

Deliverance 07-08-2009 02:03 AM

To be fair, David takes things to personally and responds with ascorbic comments. He is easy to wind up as such and Bea seems to have latched onto that trait.

David is a muppet in a way but probably a nice lad. Bea is the nasty one to wind him up so much because she simply can do so.

I think people saw Bea as being a perfect match up for Freddie, and a lot of people wanted to see Freddie have someone in there totally on his level.

Obviously Bea's 'fake hippy' act soon wore off and that's why she is so hated now that her true colors have emerged.

True, but she still seems to have more of a fan base (how that translates into votes, we shall see) and more forum attention. And like I said, why is David less popular then Hira? He's been rather involved and is very outspoken, sociable and a big voice/presence.

I just think that if he was posh, spoke with a southern accent and was from a different type of culture, he'd automatically be more accepted.

We need to save poor, sincere, affectionate David. He's a good man and an honest man.

I will ring many times for him and Lisa, we have to kick Bea out! Go for it! :wavey:

BB22 07-08-2009 07:29 AM

I don't think so.

hennessy 22-08-2009 04:43 PM

Naw let him go, it can't be discrimination if you just don't like the bloke

zukhov 22-08-2009 04:45 PM

Fact#

If David had the looks, manners and education of Tom he would be one of the most popular housemates.

Most people base their dislike of him on looks and background.

Yorkyboy 22-08-2009 04:54 PM

He is a Turd.

Full of self praise. Im this, I'm that, I can cope with this, I can cope with that.

Self praise is no recmmondation, a total whingebag.

I think that pretty much works out my vote:dog:

Well yes, but that goes without saying. HM support is primarily based on looks, appearance, class, what trends they're into, etc. Not really about technicalities of what goes on in the house.

Discussions, technicalities etc are just used as rationalizations for supporting HMs.

e.g.) "But he did this and that in this circumstance, so you're wrong, it shows he's ..." etc. All of course based on biased perceptions. People see what they want to see. Hence the disagreement on forums!

But yes, David's a top bloke, very honest, caring, good hearted man. His accent, background, looks etc don't seem to help him unfortunately.

Beastie 22-08-2009 04:56 PM

i like david! and he may take things to heart too much!! but he is a good bloke!! yeah.. hes always with lisa.. i think thats why people dont like him! but i would love him to come 2nd after marcus!! be brilliant :D

Beastie 22-08-2009 04:59 PM

actually i wouldnt mind if david even won!! i think hes very accepting and wanted to be beas friend.. but then bea discriminated him because david wasnt as intelligent as her!! but yes he has a good heart, loyal and is genuine

iamonfire 22-08-2009 05:11 PM

He's growing on me. Not that I disliked him, theres just not much to appreciate at first glance, camp, common, low IQ, didn't like his clothes. I know not to judge a book by its cover though and he is turning out to be sincere and fun and generally a nice friendly guy.

cassieparis 22-08-2009 05:21 PM

Thank you OP your summary of David's good character is really heartwarming.
I really like him although at first I wasn't drawn to him. He is a genuine person and yes I think people might discriminate against him based on his style of delivery although I don't have any sound evidence for my opinion other than my feelings.

AhmedFan2004 22-08-2009 05:23 PM

Yes, he's way better than some of the fools left. He's way better than Rodrigo for one. That guy should have been booted out by BB ages ago.

Luanda 22-08-2009 05:28 PM

Yes, David is genuine, open, kind and caring. Unfortunately he is as thick as ****** which makes listening to him quite painful. I don't think it is fair to say he is discriminated against. The only other housemate in the history of BB who was as thick as him is probably JG.

hennessy 22-08-2009 05:32 PM

I think the word discrimination is getting bandied around too much on here, just accept the fact that regardless of his upbringing that he's not everyone's cup of tea

Of course he is not being discriminated against, he's a complete pointless waste of space. Bea was far more watchable than David even if you didn't agree with her bitchy ways, she certainly brought more to the show than what David has ever done. The sooner he leaves the better.
