The Rape Tunnel. Is this art or exploitation?
 

"THE RAPE TUNNEL, which is set to go on view at Columbus’ 4D Gallery on October 30th, has come under fire from Columbus-based feminist groups not to mention, local law enforcement officials. The artist plans to place himself in a room, the only entrance or exit being a 22 ft long plywood tunnel constructed by Whitehurst himself. Then he says that for the duration of the gallery’s opening (from 7:00 p.m. to midnight) he will rape anyone who travels through the tunnel into that room."

This man clearly has issues, whether this is just a ploy or not. How the art gallery could allow this is disgusting.

I've read this a few months back, and didn't understand it then.

Basically, he'll rape anyone who walks through there, right? But anone who walks through there is therefore consenting to it, and so it's not rape, it's just random consensual sex.

I remember reading that he originally tried to a murder tunnel, but wasn't sure if that was a joke.

but would it still be classed as rape if the person knew that when they go through the tunnel, they will get raped. its like walking past a sign that says, 'Look out for holw, you could fall and die' and you still go anyway??

It is the delusion of shock misconstrued as art by those who have not the talent or dedication to produce true art.

You could pass off anything as art, but then again, one's definition of art could be different from another's.

It was a pretty effective hoax.

I can picture Ross living in one of these waiting for unsuspecting victims to pass on through.

I'd enter the tunnel to be honest. Then again I enter anything with a hole.

sounds like my experience of the Channel Tunnel tbh.
