Should coins become history?

I mean, we have the tech to have digital credits now, why are we still using coins (which have been used since roman times)?

Tom 25-12-2009 01:05 PM

Coins annoy me but if you're going to give someone money how do you get around it ... or if you forget your card?

Just give them less emphasis

Scarlett. 25-12-2009 01:08 PM

Send it them digitally xD with coins, you can lose money, with a card you cant

and to make it easier they could just like your account to your thumbprint or something

arista 25-12-2009 02:13 PM

No Chewy
We need more £5 coins.

Nicky. 25-12-2009 02:17 PM

I think just notes would surfice...

I found £10 in ASDA, this guy practically chucked it out of his wallet, so I grabbed it to give to him, but he was gone xD .... so yes, money is easy to lose!

:'D

Shaun 25-12-2009 02:30 PM

I prefer cash to digitalshit.

arista 25-12-2009 02:31 PM

The 99p store
market stals all need coins.

They are staying.

You can easily drop £20, then its gone forever, you cant drop something that is on a computer

Shaun 25-12-2009 02:36 PM

true, but stuff on a computer is prone to interference, technological failure and what not.

I of course keep big sums of money in banks, but for smaller transactions I just prefer to use coins/notes, they're pretty.

It can easily be corrected if there is an error :3 but they are prettyfull I guess, at least notes should be got rid of, there is no need for them

then you make a good point :)

You cannot just answer yes or no because it is a typical economic issue. In the use of money, coins represent 10%, the other 90% is digital (SWIFT, Credit card...) so it looks like it's pointless.
However, coins influence on inflation and market prices. It is not only a currency concern but how it influences the prices. For example, making more coins will increase the prices but making no coins at all will be worse as the currency will be way under the level of other currencies, which means economic failure, stock exchanges crash and less exportations. The consequences are quite unpredictable: either the prices are way too low so everyone is buying from us, but we get screwed or the prices are way too high and no one will buy from us.
Therefore, not having coins or material support to pay with will make things rather horrible. And people aren't ready to change their habits.

Well, many politicians and bank directors thought about it but the risks were way too high. And it's not quite the moment to mess up with economy.
