Vinnie pays his staff below the minimum wage - disgrace

On last night's highlight show Vinnie discussed with the other HMs how much he pays his 'staff'. He said he has dog groomers and housekeepers etc. and he said he only pays them $125 per week and that the housekeepers work from 8am - 4pm daily, approx. six days a week. That is way below the minimum wage and is a disgrace. Someone living on that wage would be in terrible poverty.

Then Vinnie went on to say he spends more than his housekeeper's weekly wage on a few drinks every day at the golf course! He could certainly afford to pay his 'staff' a fair wage, so why isn't he?

$125 is £76.00.

Because people are willing to work for what he is paying - so what's it got to do with you or anyone else???:conf:

Whatever it has to do with labour laws or employing non nationals who will accept less pay because they are illegal immigrants. And how that also takes jobs away from people who would get paid a proper wage is something for the law to decide.

HOWEVER, that was not my point, my point is (which you are trying to ignore) is that Vinnie is taking advantage of poor people in poverty, paying them disgraceful wages while he lives it up and can afford to pay them a proper wage - that says was an arsehole he is.

No one would defend an employer in the UK for paying someone that kind of wage!!!!!!! They would demand he pay them a proper (at least minimum) wage.

That is the kind of wage sweatshops pay and you think sweatshop owners are nice people who should be allowed to get away with it? WTF?

So are the posh people in this country!!
At any given time if you go past those private parks near a posh square you'll see at least 10 Thai/filipino maids pushing their posh employers kids about.
This is in London btw

Two wrongs don't make a right!!!!!!

Vinnie is still exploiting poor people when he could well afford to pay them a proper minimum wage.

Just because you're a fan of his doesn't mean you have to chuck all moral judgement out of the window!

BrooklynFan 25-01-2010 07:51 PM

minimum wage is about 7 dollars an hour.

jtalh2003 25-01-2010 09:25 PM

If its live in then they dont have to worry about food or bills like rent and so on

Exactly!

Harry! 25-01-2010 09:37 PM

In these times money is money and you are lucky to have a job.

Shasown 25-01-2010 11:15 PM

Given that he lives in LA where income tax, and federal tax do not amount to a lot, and the cost of living is much cheaper generally in the US than in the UK, whats the problem? Chances are he is paying them the going rate for the services they provide.

Athleticguy29uk 26-01-2010 01:41 AM

They dont "HAVE" to accept his wages do they, they can work somwhere else if they want/need more money!

I am a Vinnie fan but you are right Ghosty...it is pretty disgusting wage for those long hours. I was a bit let down by him on that part but I don't know much about American employment laws and I reckon most (unfortunately) stars in hollywood do the same sadly. I think even radio 1 (chrish moyles) was commenting on this also and made a valid point that how can someone with amansion, dog groomer, cleaner etc., represent the public? But at the end of the day "it is what it is" :-)

Given that petrol(gas) over there is a little bit cheaper than here, they pay $2.79 per gallon(multiply by 0.62) thats £1.72 per gallon we pay per litre so divide by 4.55 to give a close approximation - 38 pence per litre.

Its a lot cheaper to live in the states.

Given that the minimum wage in California is $8.00 per hour and the fact he is a green card and work permit holder himself, I should imagine he pays them minimum wage.

Go and buy a calculator!
Vinnie HIMSELF said he pays them £125 per week. Vinnie said HIMSELF that they work for him from 8am until 4pm every day. Do the math.

If the minimum wage in California is $8.00 per hour (post your source for that) then Vinnie is breaking the law over there. Not the first time he has though!

At least you have the honesty to admit that. Most Vinnie fans are blinded by their luv for him, which is hilarious. They think he is god and they worship him. LOL.

Did he say pounds or dollars, if he said dollars did he mean pounds?

Did he make a mistake in his maths? Or was he just bigging himself up?

What other laws has he broke over there? Or is this just you spouting more BS?

Incidentally try here http://www.dol.gov/whd/minwage/america.htm for minimum wages, there is a federal minimum wage which is lower or equal to individual states.

Try www.gasbuddy.com for average pump prices in any given city/state.

And if you want conversion for US to UK currency or for US measures ro metric, try looking for them on Google ICBA.

Ghostinthehouse 26-01-2010 10:53 PM

If you read the OP you would know the conversion is already there. And for the record Vinnie said DOLLARS.

Just because you typed it in the OP doesnt mean its true now does it, and to be frank I cant recall him saying he had them working from 8 till 4 nor do I recall him saying he spent more on drinks in a day than his housekeepers weekly wages. I may be wrong on that am willing to be corrected. After all it was also in your OP

Incidentally what other laws has he broke over there, you claimed in another post on this thread, could you provide links to the outcome of any and all court cases etc?

So are allegations of crimes.

I dont need a calculator, me old son, I was brought up in an education system that didnt rely on them and can therefore do arithmetic mentally (that means do sums in my head).

Have you found any links to substantiate those slanderous allegations of him committing crimes in the US yet?
