Did the 'Thatcher Revolution' scar the Conservatives?

Just another topic that interests me, does anyone thing that the 'thatcher revolution' has damaged the image of the Conservative party? Do you feel that if 'thatcherism' never happened Labour would of lasted for 13 years?

I suppose it's more of a hypothetical question, but I am interested on your views on her reign.

A good basic and entertaining summary on everything of the 80's... from politics to culture that kind of summarises what she brought, and took, from Britain.

Wasnt so much the thatcher era if truth be told. but the indecision and sleaze that came after it, with Majors government.

Squeaky clean tony promised a newer type of government, people bought his lies, and elected him, then he introduced spin, suddenly everything bad was Tory, everything good was labour, the electorate bought that too.

All the while Tony and his cronies were engaging in more sleaze than the tories could even have dreamed of. All the while alistair campbell and his spin machine were blaming everything not on the previous Tory government but the one before that.

Thatcher stood up to Europe and ensured we got treated fairly, thats been handed back by Labour. She brought pride back to the country, again its now non PC to be proud to be British, god forbid even English. Inflation she brought down, Balance of payments brought under control, The unions she put back on the leash. Her policies took us out of debt to the IMF as well as all the other debts that had been run up, to putting us back up into the G7.

All been ruined by Blair and Brown.

I sometimes wish that everyone would agree Thatcher was a fantastic prime minister. The world would be such a better place for me :(

Well I agree she was a fantastic prime minister and in fact most of Britain clearly agreed too because she won 3 elections!

She was not only a fantastic Prime Minister. She was the best PM since Winston Churchill. She managed to reverse the rot of the 70's and made Britain Great again.

I like the work of Thatcher too and I'm suprised at the reactions here; there doesn't seem to be to much hate. Yes, she made some problems but people seem to forget Britain before her 'era'.

And arista I love the Andrew Marr series; I have watched it loads. Even though it's not really indepth it's a nice way to look at it all, plus I love the culture elements

Hate her for obvious reasons, the same way I never took to Churchill either. But yeah, I can see why the two of them were so important to Britain. They pulled you outta the shi%e.

I kind of feel the minining closures weren't helped by the strikes though; and I feel as dismissive as it sounds they would be closed within the next decade anyway. I know the huge impact it had, but wasn't it coming at some point?

Thatcher brought the NUM to heel, and thank goodness stopped those bloody miners digging up coal nobody wanted or needed, just to keep themselves in work. She faced down the unions and her policies on closed shops, flying pickets and strike ballots were never reversed when Labour came to power.
And yes, she does deserve everything she gets, which is massive respect and the many honours heaped on her from all over the world.

Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill, the best Prime Ministers of the last century, and both Conservatives.

I'm neither a boy (rude or otherwise) or your blood (thank God) so quit your pathetic, and frankly laughable, pseudo street talk - it's cringeworthy. If you had even half a brain you might know what you were talking about, but sadly you don't and you don't.:pat:
