If you have to have a licence to drive a car, why isn't a licence to have children introduced? There are some people in this world who should NEVER have children, and this case highlights why. You only have to look around you to see the products of rubbish parenting. My heart breaks for this toddler - who knows how such trauma will affect him in the future?

I saw this in the paper at the weekend, it's disgusting

it was probably just a bit of fun.

It was assault and abuse of a child, pure and simple,

The actual incident isn't funny, but the jokes that are made about it are. It's called dark/'sick' humour. It's the same in all cases. The Maddie McCann case was awful...but the jokes are hilarious. Same applies to the Fritzl case etc. It's got nothing to do with 'how we're wired', we just have a different sense of humour [dare I say a better one].

Well strangely enough I thought this was the "serious debates" forum, not the forum for inappropriate infantile jokes about child abuse. Why would you take offence at the comment that you are wired differently to find child cruelty amusing, when it is so obviously a statement of fact?

I'm a fan of Armando Iannucci and Stewart Lee so I'd like to think my sense of humour is about as black as you can get, but to me it just sounds as if you guys are trying to shock and provoke for it's own sake, which is not very good when you're so quick to label people as humourless when they don't "get it".

I agree Angus,I saw this yesterday,it is really sad that people like this can have children,they should be steralized,they are no good to anyone and WE are supposed to be civilized,I hope this poor little lad has gone into care and will be fostered into a loving,caring home.
