Can Rebecca Ferguson win?

I think she's an amazing singer, but for reason can't see her winning...

Kerry 12-10-2010 02:17 AM

Doubt it. She has a lovely voice but unless she lets us see more of herself she's no chance

Callum 12-10-2010 02:48 AM

No I don't think she can, she's very likeable but her voice isn't amazingly good in my opinion. Sort of like Stacey from last year.

King Gizzard 12-10-2010 02:48 AM

If I could put a bet on anyone it would be her

Tom4784 12-10-2010 03:04 AM

She could be a dark horse and a late bloomer like Alex and Joe was as they were well liked but weren't really favourites until near the end. If she keeps it up though and makes it top top 5/6 I can see her getting a record deal.

I think this year's bunch will be quite successful really, there's gonna be a few with record contracts by the end.

I disagree whole heartedly, Stacey was just a decent voice but with Rebecca there's a lot of potential there and you can see her as a recording artist. I think she is one of the better singers and prospects this year.

Hitting the big notes doesn't make you a good singer, it's all about if an artist can grab you and despite a blase song choice she still managed to be in the upper echelon of acts on Saturday.

ElProximo 12-10-2010 05:06 AM

Yes, as someone mentioned she may be more the 'dark horse' who's character and personality blooms over a few more weeks. She could be the 'journey' story.

She definitely has the voice, looks and skills to win. Just needs a little more 'character'.

Joelle. 12-10-2010 07:23 AM

Of course she can. Anyone who doesn't think she has an amazing voice is obviously either deaf or a fan of Cher or Katie. She has a much better voice than Stacey Solomon. I liked Stacey and thought she had an excellent voice at the time. But it's no comparison to how good Rebecca's is.

Niamh. 12-10-2010 09:37 AM

yeah I think so, it's very hard to call right now though because I think there's quite a few of them that could win it

SacredDiablo 12-10-2010 09:43 AM

she needs a performance that leave us all speechless.. just that one performance, she being the winner if definite....

Legend killer 12-10-2010 09:45 AM

Even though i like her i hope she doesn't as we will have to see Cheryl's big smug face , darkening our TV screens once again

fruit_cake 12-10-2010 09:49 AM

She's ok, but I'd hardly say she has the 'x' factor.. but I guess things change every week

StGeorge 12-10-2010 11:00 AM

She is definately a recording artist already, but her ability to perform live is whats at question at the moment.
And unfortunately the artists dont get to choose their own songs and can sometimes be in a theme week that just doesnt suit their style....its at that time..when she puts in a flat performance..that her fan base will be required to get her on to the next stage.
There have been some good singers in the past that have had a nightmare theme week and hit the wall.
This show is a marathon not a sprint, and its the all rounder with ability to adapt that succeeds.
IMO Cheryl got the song choice wrong on Saturday....she cant afford to do that to often.

KG. 12-10-2010 11:05 AM

I think after the first live show, she and Matt are the two that have the best chances of winning.

I think it's done Rebecca well not being lumped in 'the best of the night' category in the first live show, it's usually those that tend to burn out somewhere near the middle and everyone is wondering why they're not doing as well as they did in the begining, whereas I think Rebecca will start putting in some really great performances as she progresses and everyone will begin to love her.

cub 12-10-2010 11:40 AM

I'd like her to be the last woman in the comp.

Vicky. 12-10-2010 11:47 AM

TreyC has a much stronger voice than Rebecca.

She was amazing on the live show. Rebecca was...just above average IMO.

I think TreyC is the girl to watch out for. Though I still think a guy will win it this year.

Yep can't see her winning and yes a big fan of Katie and Cher. Sometimes a voice impediment gives a fresh angle and sound, maybe Cher sounded even more current with her tonsillitis.

The biggest stars are usually not great singers... Maddonna, Lady Gaga and notably from the previous generation David Bowie, Bonnie Tyler, Sting, Elton John and Rod Stewart making it with husky or odd voices.

The problem is that Treyc is too similar to Alexandra and Leona. I mean I can appreciate that they all have brilliant voices but personally I prefer the tone of Rebeccas would listen to hers.

Vicky. 12-10-2010 12:05 PM

Hmm I dont know. I did love rebeccas 'fireflies' though, at judges houses I think it was. Think i need to watch a bit more of her before making my mind up on her, this week though...I actually thought she was one of the worst -ducks-

well, this what I was saying in another thread. Cheryl gave her a terrible song, she seems to be concentrating on her little "mini-me" and I would wonder is she deliberately trying to take Rebecca out of the running?

That song just didn't suit her voice at all

StGeorge 12-10-2010 12:13 PM

Even fans agree that the song choice was awful and not her style at all....but then again coming from someone who had "Fight for This Love"
as her debut solo song,....i'm not too confident that Rebecca's fortunes will favour her obvious talent.
Another example of a good singer being ruined by song choice was Laura White, who was outstanding till they messed with her style choice and home she went.

I think its more to do with Cheryl not having a clue about song style outside of her own little chavvy bubble.

yeah, could be that too. as Vicky said the version of fireflies she did at judges houses was just fantastic, she has so much potential but I really think Cheryl will ****** things up for her

Sounds like we like the same tunes Niamh....and as such we can feel when an artist of a certain genre is then put outside of that and expected to sing away from their comfort zone.
