what does a cancerous lump look like?

Last week I felt a lump by my breast. I looked at it and it was on the outside. It looked like a brown spot. Came out of nowhere it seems. I thought it would go away. It hasn't. It's grown. It might be a boil not sure because i've never had one. Can a cancerous lump be on the outside? If so what would it look like, if anyone has experienced this?

Ninastar 10-11-2010 03:11 PM

I think any type of cancer can be on the outside, Im not 100% sure though. What ever it is, I would go and get it checked out.

I'm no doctor, but I think any serious lumps are usually found within the actual breast tissue itself.. It is probably nothing, but I reckon lumps of any description should be checked out :)

DOn't worry though.. it's much more likely to be very little rather than something serious :)

I'd get the advice of a doctor, or a medical wesbite or something, not TiBB members :p

I hope you're right. Gps nowadays treat you like they can't wait for you to get out of their office. Reason why many diseases are left undetected at early stages.

Yeah, you're right... But I do think in this sort of thing they would do as much as possible to put your mind at ease.

If you really don't like your GP, do you have a local well-woman clinic you could go to?

Ammi 10-11-2010 03:21 PM

I just googled breast lumps outside and it doesnt seem that uncommon but none of them where cancerous. If it was me I'd def have it checked out though just because I'd want to know what it is

Lee. 10-11-2010 03:23 PM

Is it sore?

Vicky. 10-11-2010 03:23 PM

Any lump should be checked out by a doctor, just incase. I'm sure its nothing to worry about though, so dont worry yourself too much. :)

Jordan. 10-11-2010 03:24 PM

It could just be a cyst, still you should get it checked out asap.

Ithinkiloveyoutoo 10-11-2010 03:25 PM

^^ will definitely have it checked out.

I'm fairly new to my area. I've never looked into any local womans clinic but if i'm not please with how he handles it i'm going somewhere else. It's not the first time i've been worried about something like this. Like time I went to get checked he didn't feel anything and I had to show him where I felt something before he checked again and said ah probably nothing. That's just the breast tissue. I took his word for it at the time...
I'll make sure he knows I have a list of people to hunt down whenever i'm a ghost.

the only really good advise your going to get is from your GP - make an appointment now and put your mind at rest

Lol.. If your doctor's a dickhead, your entitled to change to another one.. Ask about and see if anyone knows of a better one. I used to have the crappest doc imagineable but have now changed to a fab one.. He's interested, funny, young and to top it all rather dishy :)

Itchy is good - lumps to worry about are not usually itchy sounds more like a skin thing but get it checked out and let us know how you get on

Yeah, I agree with this. Oh and it's not a boil either.. they're sore as **** ! :)

you've got cancer and you're going to die

in all seriousness, in the worst case scenario it could be skin cancer that just happens to be there.

Woo, thats not a joke that's just insensitive.

In all seriousness, I would go to a GP. Although this isn't really a debate.
Good Luck.

Thanks. I know nobody here would know what it is but my hope was maybe somebody had had something similar and could share experiences. Much better to reading a guide online sometimes.
