He wasn't being sexist, was speaking reality.

MTVN 18-11-2010 09:03 PM

Yep, he was completely right

supergirthuk 18-11-2010 10:44 PM

The usual misogynistic, sexist crap that blokes come out with to justify their bad behaviour and big themselves up. He came out with a fair bit of medieval drivel.

How sad that men still feel the need to feel superior to the other half of the human race.:bored:

Not really, he wasnt saying it was his personal view, he was just saying that society generally dictates different standards for men than for woman. If a woman sleeps with 10 guys in a short period of time she is considered a slag, if a man did the same he'd get a pat on the back. He didnt say it was right, but it is what happens I'm afarid.

And you're dreaming if you dont think that males have more influence in the world than females

The way he started made it look like it WAS his personal view. I've never liked Christie anyway. He got away with drugs and cheating allegations during his athletics career, and always comes across as a smug, contrary, untrustworthy bloke. Hope it means the end for him soon.

Well, he then explained that it wasnt so you dont really have an argument there.

It all sounds very playgroundish if you ask me, kind of boys are better than girls na na na na na. It's more funny than insulting!

Of course males have more influence overall in the world than females:rolleyes: After several thousand years of subjugation by MEN, women have only in the last century been able to access a decent education, good jobs and to live autonomously and do what they like without having to get the permission of a male. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, women are still subjugated and discriminated against (brought into sharp focus with immigrants to this country) - whilst here in the West it is still an uphill struggle to change medieval misogynistic attitudes and mindsets.

As recently as the 1970s women were not allowed to take out a mortgage in their own right - they had to have a male guarantor! And women have had to fight hard to earn the same wage as a man doing the exact same job! With such outrageous oppression by the physically (but not much else) male population, women have a lot of ground to make up considering men have been strutting about calling the shots for several thousand years, having had the benefit of independence of action and thought, education, and the freedom to shag around as much as they like. Unsurprising then that women have had little opportunity to exert as much influence, so that argument is a massive fail.

Women now have access to the same opportunities that men have ALWAYS enjoyed and had this been the case from time immemorial the sexes would be equal in terms of achievements, influence and power.

The fact that women are not TREATED equally, does not mean they are unequal - there is a difference.

You have completely missed the point of what linford said and what the point of the discussion was about. We are talking about NOW. Regardless of why it happens, its the fact it HAPPENS.

I haven't actually seen it but I did read about it and if this quote is what he said then it sounds very like it is his view

“Women cannot expect to do what men do. (There are) certain things that men do that women should not do. Women are supposed to be more decent than men. I’m sorry to say that…I’m not saying that it’s more acceptable in society that men can be skanky hoes and women should not be…I’m not saying its right…I believe there are ways of behaviour women should not do.”

You're completely missing the point he made. He never said he believed that it should be the case [infact he clearly stated it's wrong], but that it is indeed case. Men have a lot more power and influence over women [like you've just stated]. That's a fact. It's not right, it's wrong, I know - but that's the way it is. And that's what he was saying as well

But, IMO, part of the reason why women are labelled 'slags' when they sleep around, but men aren't - is pretty much because women appear to care far more about what other people are doing with their lives than what men do. To be quite honest, I couldn't give a flying ***** whether someone shagged a thousand people in a week - it makes no difference to me and doesn't make them a 'slag' at all. But in most women's eyes [not all] it does. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's jealousy, or maybe they're just too interested in what other people are doing. But whatever it is, IMO, women generally have themselves to blame for that unfairness. Most of the time it's women throwing the word 'slag' around, not men.

keithafc 19-11-2010 03:53 PM

Because he is old fashioned, does not mean he thinks its RIGHT men rule the world but society does think like this.

There is so many thick people in the UK who actually thought Stacey was right in an argument when she didn't raise a good point. Linford was the only one who actually spoke a lot of sense in what he said about society judging women differently from men when it comes to sex with different men/women.

Hmm, it was a bit confusing what he actually meant. I think he was basically saying that society dictates that women should not sleep around as much and that they should be more decent, but he didnt word what he said very well
