Matt Donates Money

His illness was never played on was it? Anyone else would have played the sympathy card all the way through. I never even knew until yesterday

Quote:

Matt Cardle has announced that he will donate some of his X Factor winnings to a cancer charity.

According to Now, the former painter and decorator suffered from kidney cancer at a very young age, during which time he and his family received support from the charity CLIC Sargent.

"I was young but I knew I was seriously ill and that I was in hospital," Cardle reportedly told The Sun. "It was caught quite early and I was all right, but it could have been worse."

"So I wanted to give some money to CLIC," the singer explained. "They helped me out when I was sick so it seems like the right thing to do."

Cardle was crowned this year's X Factor champion on Sunday night and released debut single 'When We Collide' on Monday

I never heard him. Mind you I never really watched XTra Factor. I'd watch the first half with the judges and guests but then it just got boring

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 14-12-2010 07:51 PM

he probably got the cancer on purpose just so he won :bored:

No but I agree in a sense, I didn't see it exploited for sympathy, so good on him...

Kerry,I knew he had ,had cancer as a child and you are right he never once played on this,I watched the Xtrafactor everyweek and never once did MATT bring it up,he may have been asked about it by Konnie, but that is a totally different thing. He could have milked it for all it was worth and the fact that you never knew reinforces he didn't.We know how to pick em:xyxwave:

patsylimerick 14-12-2010 08:18 PM

What a welcome change to find something like this out after the show is over. He's going up and up in my estimation, this one.

Cheers, will take a look :)

MissKittyFantastico 14-12-2010 08:45 PM

It was in the Sunday papers (NOTW or Mirror) early on in the competition.

They didn't hardly mention it on the shows though which makes a refreshing change! Good on him :)

King Gizzard 14-12-2010 08:49 PM

It's a bittoo sensitive a subject to bring up on XF whatsoever

but yeah fair play.

Ryan57 14-12-2010 08:49 PM

I never knew about this until reading the paper today. And i've read a lot of the X Factor gossip.

As always, people have to criticise.

Yeah he had a tumour and had to have chemo and one kidney removed. He was only two if I remember rightly.

Wow, what a great comment. Cancer isn't a serious and awful illness, it's simply something minor isn't it? so let's all joke about it.

So many idiots in this world.

InOne 20-12-2010 10:55 PM

He didn't play on it then, so why does it need to be mentioned now?

Shaun 20-12-2010 10:55 PM

/ people who can joke about serious subjects, rather than go around like sensitive little lilies crying over child molestors and famine all the time

I can only assume he asked for it not to be mentioned during the show. After that people probs just went for it. It's not him mentioning it to be fair

Mystic Mock 20-12-2010 11:21 PM

this is the first time ive heard anything about it,but fair play to him as he could have milked it for all its worth.

Jords 21-12-2010 10:49 AM

I didnt know he had cancer before now, but I rarely watched Xtra Factor. :p

well he's already won the competition so it's not like it's playing for sympathy for him!
