Anne Hathaway cast as Catwoman in the new Batman film AND Tom Hardy's playing Bane

It was reported last week that the forthcoming movie was screen testing a number of actresses for two lead parts. Keira Knightley and Jessica Biel were also apparently in the running.

Director Christopher Nolan said: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story."

Studio Warner Bros further confirmed that Inception actor Tom Hardy will play Bane in Nolan's next Batman movie.

The helmer added of Hardy: "I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies."

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to arrive in US cinemas on July 20, 2012.

Michelle Pfeiffer played Catwoman in 1992's Batman Returns. Halle Berry portrayed the role in the 2004 film Catwoman.
Good choice, I quite like her.

Nobody can beat Michelle Pfeiffer's version. But I think anyone could pretty much do a better job than Halle Berry. She proved that you might look good in a catsuit but it doesn't mean your forgiven for bad acting.

ew no I don't like her at all and cannot imagine her as catwoman. I would have picked Keira Knightly out of the people you named

I just wanted a less obvious villain, as Batman Begins did. The film was always going to get loads of attention without an obvious character coming back

Catwoman's not the main villain, it's apparently a comic book villain called Hugo Strange.

Bad choice IMO should have gone to scarlet johansen or someone who's got actual boobs that can fill that cat suit, Ann is all bones

I think she'll surprise people, everyone thought Heath Ledger was a terrible choice when he was announced as the Joker and look how well that turned out.
