"The Simpsons" facing cancellation

The Simpsons is reportedly facing cancellation.

The long-running animated series could be axed due to a contract dispute between the show's voice actors and 20th Century Fox, The Daily Beast reports.

The studio purportedly wants the actors to agree to a 45% pay cut or it will cease production on the Fox series. Meanwhile, the actors have offered to take a 30% cut as long as they receive a small portion of the show's back-end earnings.

Earlier today, 20th Century Fox released a statement regarding the contract negotiations, insisting that it is committed to finding a solution to the dispute.

"23 seasons in, The Simpsons is as creatively vibrant as ever and beloved by millions around the world," reads the statement. "We believe this brilliant series can and should continue, but we cannot produce future seasons under its current financial model.

"We are hopeful that we can reach an agreement with the voice cast that allows The Simpsons to go on entertaining audiences with original episodes for many years to come."

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston recently signed on to voice a spy on the animated series, while Glee's Jane Lynch will play Homer's new personal assistant in an upcoming episode.

The Simpsons first premiered in December 1989. It is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated programme and the longest-running American primetime scripted television series ever.

hmm.. :suspect:

I've never really been bothered about it.. it's just there

Locke. 04-10-2011 10:56 PM

Brilliant news

Ramsay 04-10-2011 10:56 PM

Good
It stopped being funny after season 10

Roy Mars III 04-10-2011 10:56 PM

Hasn't been good since season 9, so not a great surprise.

GypsyGoth 04-10-2011 10:56 PM

Wouldn't another tv channel pick it up if Fox cancelled it?

Patrick 04-10-2011 10:57 PM

No one gives a ****** anymore.

The Simpsons is a washed up, has been - bore fest.

It's all about South Park and that rubbish Family Guy now, The Simpsons should just bring itself to a 'graceful' end and go away now.

It stopped being amazing after the movie.

Probably not, the casts wages demands are too high

Maia 04-10-2011 10:58 PM

The newer episodes just make it seem like the whole thing is a dead horse being flogged.

Okay well that's bollocks, considering the fact it's won loads of awards and everyone was going crazy in like April when the 'Final' episode aired and sent everyone into shock and worry that it was gone.

So yes, South Park is still as good and relevant as ever.

Actually, maybe it has gone down hill abit - yes, but it's still far more talked about now than The Simpsons and those wanna-be's, Family Guy.

Ramsay 04-10-2011 11:02 PM

Family Guy is the biggest load of **** ever broadcast on TV
Its so stupid its unreal

Didn't everyone get bored of that in about 1998? :joker: I remember when it used to be on Channel 4 on a Friday night at 9.30pm, it used to be on after Friends. Now its on VIVA or some other crap channel at daft times

Can't believe its still going tbh, its pretty one dimensional. Simpsons used to be really good and its a good family comedy as well with plenty of jokes for adults and kids alike but it got boring a few years back.

'Conor 04-10-2011 11:03 PM

even if The Simpsons is cancelled the episodes will be repeated to death no?

Chuck 04-10-2011 11:05 PM

I haven't watched it in years, in fact I thought the channels were just airing old episodes, I didn't even think anyone cared about The Simpsons anymore.

InOne 04-10-2011 11:20 PM

The Simpsons hasn't been good for ages, the eps now are just so cringey.

South Park I can still watch though, reminds me of being a kid again lol

I thought this too....

when shows like this are cancelled, do they just cancel it right away or they say "okay Simpsons will no longer air on television from Autumn 2012"

Smithy 04-10-2011 11:32 PM

they'll probably still air old episodes, just not make any new ones

I reckon this but instead of new episodes every few years they'll make a movie.....or treehouse of horror episode.

'Conor 04-10-2011 11:37 PM

In fairness.. i always love the halloween episodes

Visage 04-10-2011 11:54 PM

I always thought the show dried up after the fourth series.

Benjamin 05-10-2011 12:09 AM

I didn't realise they still made new episodes, I used to love it when I was younger but rarely watch it these days.
