Big Brother 2012: Producers promise a more mixed selection of housemates

Big Brother 2012 producers have promised a “wide variety of characters” for this year’s show, after criticism over last year’s line up.

Producer Katy Smith admitted to The Herald yesterday that the casting for the previous series was a “mistake”.

“Last year we were very pushed for time and we didn’t come to Scotland, which was a mistake,” she said. “Channel 5 had asked for a dynamic mix of young and attractive housemates, though that’s as far as the instructions went, and that’s what we gave them.

“This year we want a wide variety of characters – as wide as possible. Big Brother is extremely important to Channel 5 and they are relying on us to make this series the best it possibly can be.”

Show producer Jamie Sutcliffe added: “We have some surprises lined up, of course, but it all hangs on finding people the viewers want to watch.

“We are trying to make it as varied as possible this year as last year was fairly London-centric and a fairly young group. We’ve learned from that. Celebrity Big Brother was a huge success and now we’re focusing on building on and consolidating that success by keeping the viewers who tuned in for that.”

Big Brother 2012 will start on Channel 5 in May.
Sorce
I hope this is true they need some older housemates. :D

Good. Couple of freaks and oldies would do nicely

Roy Mars III 27-02-2012 12:06 PM

yea, some proper freaks and some older housemates would be nice

Good. Looking back, last year was actually quite boring in terms of memorable events and housemates. Even Alex, Jay and Aaron are a little dull compared to previous years.

Roy Mars III 27-02-2012 12:08 PM

Anton and Aaron were both great, Harry was decent as well, the rest were pretty bad tbh

King Gizzard 27-02-2012 12:10 PM

Hopefully another posh guy, Ben and Harry, amazing

armand.kay 27-02-2012 12:22 PM

^You must not forget Freddy :nono:

Kizzy 27-02-2012 12:41 PM

ah yes the obligatory tory, not too many chinless wonders though, a broader spectrum of housemates would be great. Back to basics :)

Marc 27-02-2012 12:44 PM

Young and attractive is good though

But in the past some oldies have proven entertaining.. just as long as they don't go to bed at like 9pm

Well, hardly "huge", but significant, in that it attracted a very similar, and large, audience for both runs (2.8m and 2.4m (ave)), while that for BB was almost derisory by comparison (1.6m (ave))

Black Dagger 27-02-2012 12:46 PM

I don't mind Young and Attractive, as long as they are actually entertaining, Louise, Maysoon, Stuart (BB9) and a few others weren't.

They usually cast the worst house-mates when it comes to looks...

But yeah hopefully a few 'freaks' and older house-mates.

Samuel. 27-02-2012 12:48 PM

I was happy with the range they went for last series tbh.

dizzy bint 27-02-2012 12:54 PM

I hope for a wide range of ages.

Not just one older housemate on their own, that won't help.

Jordan. 27-02-2012 12:56 PM

Good news. Last year was one of the most overrated bunch of housemates ever.

Harry was pretty rubbish though - apart from Bananagate he just spent most of his time washing dishes.

Everyone got along too well with the group last time - only Rebeckah and Aaron really seemed to have big clashes with everyone that weren't resolved really quickly. I want BB6-style conflict again.

i totally agree with you:xyxwave:

armand.kay 27-02-2012 01:27 PM

I just want a cast with the drama of bb5 and the fun times like bb3.
Oh and the freaks of bb10.

Kizzy 27-02-2012 01:35 PM

Most people who act 'whacky' to get on BB are usually the most boring HMs. Having watched a few youtube auditions you get the impressin they think if i act like a complete loon i will get in. I think the selection should not be about how they act in the few mins of an audition, but their lifestyle. Interesting people, those who have experienced life, been and seen things..Not just older HMs all of them, it would make for a more dynamic house where they can occupy their own minds for more than 3 seconds.

'We didn't go to Scotland  Which was a mistake'

****** Scotland you bellends, if the Scottish really wanted to go in that badly - they can get a train down to London or something!

Go to Northern Ireland, it's only fair.
