Battle Royale V's The Hunger Games
So.............Battle Royale happened to be on TV last night, out of curiosity I decided to watch. As much as I adore The Hunger Games, the similarity of the games themselves are a bit too close for comfort, in fact it's a complete rip off, I'm not even sure how Suzanne Collins wasn't sued or something for stealing the idea
The film itself I thought was crap, the story as to why they even have the games seemed a little flimsy, the deaths were more comical than disturbing, the characters weren't that likeable and I didn't have much empathy for them, I didn't really care if they all died or not. So yeah, I agree Suzanne Collins completely stole the story but I think she improved it |
Battle Royale's amazing. Get out.

-Doesn't know what Battle Royale is?-

It was a load of ****e Shaun. Why were the games even made? How come the kids didn't know about them? And if they didn't know about them how was it supposed to teach them a lesson (this is what I think the point of the games was but not 100% sure) lmao at all the gratuitous shots of the Japanese school girls with their petty coats and frilly knickers oh and where the hell was Mitsuko and Chigusa getting changes of clothes from? :suspect:

Have you watched it Jess? |
Battle Royale is amazing, and the Hunger Games is probably a rip off. They're still really enjoyable though (not as good though)

If you'd read the novel you'd discover what it was about, and I'm sure there'll be plenty of Hunger Games filmgoers who have no idea why it's happened :spin2: a little bit of background study can work wonders.
And it's really not crap. It has 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. It's extremely bleak, shocking and a turning point for cinema. |

I am only on Book 2 but I doubt there will ever be a character in the Hunger Games as great as

Tbf it's not really the same kind of genre, it's intended as a horror/drama... I think because THG series is aimed at teens and younger people it had to emphasise the human elements of it to draw some kind of emotional impact from its readers. BR just went straight in for the shock factor.

(also what channel was it on? -fingers crossed for a BBC one so I can iPlayer it-)
