What would you do if you actually did win the Lottery?

Say you won, £45 million/$72 million, what would you actually, realistically do?

Smithy 02-04-2012 01:07 AM

Give £5 mill to various charities, money to people who I work with/family say that'd leave me with £32 million i'd probably do a lot of travelling :amazed:

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 02-04-2012 01:07 AM

surgery

Smithy 02-04-2012 01:09 AM

Oh yeah that too ^

GypsyGoth 02-04-2012 01:10 AM

I'd buy the internet.

Mystic Mock 02-04-2012 01:10 AM

1. Buy Birmingham City Football Club.
2. Buy a load of Video Games.
3. Give some money to Cancer Research and Children In Need.
4. Help my friends and family out.

Shaun 02-04-2012 01:11 AM

£45m? Probably donate a good £20m or so to charity, buy my mum, sister, brothers and other family members houses (if they don't own one already )... Put aside about £100k for my brother's (and maybe niece's) university fees (and the rest they can squander on booze or whatever )... clear my mum's debts...

Then travel a hell of a lot. Buy a couple of small(ish) apartments in places that take my fancy.

Benjamin 02-04-2012 01:11 AM

Really? Surgery is not on my list, I'd never get that done. I don't think I would give it to charities either. Well, I would but not in the indirect sense, I'd go to places first-hand and help them directly so I know they get all of my money and help, plus it incorporates my travelling.

Shaun 02-04-2012 01:14 AM

I like that idea but I'd feel too... idk... I'd feel like people would talk about me doing it to feel good and inflate my ego or something  like those Extreme Makeover Home Edition shows or something. But then the idea of seeing actual change seems really rewarding.

Well you can't give money to a cancer charity and watch them develop a cure or something

I wouldn't tell anyone I was doing it. In fact I don't think I would tell anyone I won, just disappear.

I wouldn't donate to a cancer charity, no offence to anyone. I have other charities I support.

I think I would stay and finish my degree, even if it takes on less importance from a financial point of view (as in allowing me to hopefully earn more in future). I dunno if I would give that much to my family, they're pretty well off generally, and instead of giving money to my mates I think I'd organise a really big holiday for all of us which I'd pay for. Maybe a bit to charity but I wouldn't go crazy with it. I'd like to travel a lot too and go to some major sporting events; a Broncos game at Mile High, the Super Bowl, World Cup and the Ashes in Australia

Apart from that I'd buy some properties in a few different countries and just live the good life http://www.vapersforum.com/images/sm...smiley-091.gif

King Gizzard 02-04-2012 08:09 AM

Make sure my mum was sorted, buy her a cottage wherever she wanted to live, make sure her life was the easiest it could possibly be

Then the rest of the family..

Get a fininancial advisor to invest some of it so it doesn't just get wasted..I'd probably live off the interest anyway..hire a charity person to deal with all the ''no you can't have money sorry x'' letters

I'd buy a house, not sure what I would do after that

joeysteele 02-04-2012 08:18 AM

It would give you total financial security for life but I really don't want more as to my life, the way it is going I am happy, have a great family, very special friends and lot's to occupy me, I am not a materialistic person really so I don't know why I even put it on.

If I ever won that amount, I would donate to charities, obviously help family and friends as and when they needed to be and generally help out anyone who was in need that I learned about too.
My attitude to life is, 'if I saw someone struggling with lots of heavy carrier bags and I only had a part filled one, I would help them carry theirs, same with money, if help is needed and I had it, I'd share their load and ease it'.

I love Jfs plan to buy Birmingham F.C. though, nice one.

Marc 02-04-2012 08:20 AM

£45 million - instantly give half to my parents. Let them sort themselves out, buy my sisters (3) all new cars, and take us all on holiday.

Then with the (hefty) rest I'd hire a wealth advisor and possibly invest some of it into some shares and put it in banks.

Roy Mars III 02-04-2012 08:20 AM

Invest a good portion of it, give some to a few charities, make sure that family has enough to live very comfortably on, buy myself a castle and than just live out the rest of my days lavishly.

Marc 02-04-2012 08:21 AM

That! ^ of try to live off the interest from the banks, and live a normal life but with major security and great holidays

Kazanne 02-04-2012 08:27 AM

Firstly I would put some in trust for the kids
by a new car
by a massive house with cinema and pool
and I'de have animal sanctuary
I'de find out if GB was open to bribes, lol.
the rest (if there was any) would go into the bank.

fruit_cake 02-04-2012 08:29 AM

Probably buy a nice island somewhere and a few nice houses here and there, and go on a world holiday visiting all the top destinations and staying in the nicest hotels right in the centre.

I'd probably help out one or two charities somewhere a long the line or maybe even start up my own charity but for what I don't know.

Redway 02-04-2012 09:57 AM

It's not your business. :idc:

Boothy 02-04-2012 10:16 AM

If I won £45m, I'd buy cars, a decent apartment, and just generally piss about £5m up the wall. With the other £40m, I'd invest it and live off the interest. With the interest, I'd be able to live a good life, especially if I've bought a house outright, and I'll be able to make sure my family and friends are well supported, financially.

Kate! 02-04-2012 11:58 AM

Firstly I would scream my head off, and then I would go out into the street and give loads of abuse to the two families that have plagued me and my son with years of anti social behaviour and foul language, it wouldn't matter because we'd be gone gone gone :D

I'd be sensible and have some investments etc, and I would spoil my mum rotten. Also help out (some) family members. Others who never bother to so much as pick up the phone to my mum let alone do anything for her since my dad died 8 years ago including my brother and his bitch of a wife can go and stuff themselves

I'd help my best friend Lyndsey to set up in business, her ambition is to be a wedding planner.

Charities would feature strongly, and I could forget the stress of looking for work after my redundancy last year, I would go and work for a charity, I have always wanted to do that, I'm good at organising and have loads of ideas for fundraisers.

For myself, I'd love a couple of properties abroad, Italy for one, maybe California for the other. In England I would move far away from St.Helens, somewhere near the sea with lovely scenery and plenty of good places to walk.

I wouldn't have surgery, but I'd have my hair chemically straightened then I wouldn't have to wrestle with it, it has a natural kinkiness (oooer).

I would give Lucas, Scott and Glenn large sums of money because they are hilarious and I luv them :D

Loads more things, but this is getting like an essay so I will stop.

Jesus. 02-04-2012 12:23 PM

I wouldn't just donate money to charity, I'd set up my own charity, and employ a fund raising team, that would then continue to run and run long after I'm worm food.

I'd pay off all the mortgages for friends and family, and I'd like to develop youth/football clubs across the UK, that focus on children ages 3-7 and does nothing but teach football skills.

I'd setup a record label, and produce a show like Fame Academy, where talented musicians, and not just singers, would have the opportunity to get their music into the public, and join my label.

I'd immediately start a PhD, and the rest of my life would be spent traveling, and working on different academic qualifications, and I'd follow the skeptic community around the world to take part in events.
