Alexandra Burke gets police protection after Twitter death threats

Alexandra Burke was under police protection last night, at the launch of her new lip product collection.

The singer attended the central London event to celebrate the release of Lip Blooms, a collaboration with cosmetics brand Make Up Academy.

However, Burke's team drafted in extra security after a TwItter user bombarded her with a series of threatening messages, claiming that they would be present at the launch.

The messages sent by the user included: "I'm coming, and I'll murder you!", "I'm going to kill you tonight", "gonna stab you", and "prepare to die".

Burke's mother Melissa Bell and brother David both spoke out against the individual, with the latter warning: "I'll be there tonight, I DARE you to try bring harm to Alex... And see what will happen! Don't ****** with us! (sic)"

A source told Metro that the 23-year-old had been "freaked out" by the abuse, which prompted her team to contact the police.

"The police agreed to meet Alex at the entry of the club when she arrived and escort her in," they said. "Her own team weren't taking any chances. Her management decided to draft in extra security to be by her side all night.

"It could have been nothing more than a disgusting bluff but no-one was willing to take any chances after Leona Lewis was attacked a few years ago. Every threat has to be taken seriously - if something happened, Alex's team would never forgive themselves."

The Twitter user has since had their account on the micro-blogging website suspended.

After the event, also attended by Burke's boyfriend Jermain Defoe, she wrote on Twitter: "Had an amazing time at my launch tonight! Thanks 2everyone who came out&supported me. Means so much. Tonight was unreal. I'm so happy!"

Last month, it was revealed that the X Factor star's family identified and confronted a man who had threatened to stab Burke while they ate in the same restaurant.

This must be really worrying for her. Another fruit loop that needs tracking down and locking up...

God she's such a dick head.

InOne 12-04-2012 12:19 PM

Twitter is possibly the worst thing ever created.

Mystic Mock 12-04-2012 04:10 PM

She's a prick but that person is not right in the head, they must be stopped.

Marc 12-04-2012 04:30 PM

OMG I'm sorry I know this is sick, but the threats are hilarious  They're obviously NOT going to do it.

She's completely arrogant.

She and her whole chav family need to **** off forever.

Doogle 12-04-2012 05:54 PM

I love her but this is too funny.

Shaun 12-04-2012 06:02 PM

I don't understand why everyone in here's so vitriolic towards her, especially given the circumstances that this is about death threats :| and people call me nasty...

Marc 12-04-2012 06:07 PM

I don't call you nasty :spin2:

I understand that this is mean and horrible, but hardly serious. They won't get her.

How is it obvious?

Marc 12-04-2012 06:09 PM

The fact that she didn't die.

Mrluvaluva 12-04-2012 06:12 PM

Well of course she didn't but I don't see how it was obvious that they weren't going to try and do it? It's easy to say that after the fact.

Marc 12-04-2012 06:16 PM

I'm gonna kill you..

See.

If this were to happen to anybody else, non-celebrity, it wouldn't be publicised at all. And the fact she is a celebrity, makes it easier for her to be protected by hiring police to protect her so it makes it less likely to happen to her.

Mrluvaluva 12-04-2012 06:27 PM

Hiring police to protect her is a prevention. One that she felt she needed to do. That doesn't alter the cause though. Just because she has more protection doesn't mean they are not going to try and attack her, does it?

Marc 12-04-2012 06:34 PM

it doesn't, I'll agree with that but where does overexaggeration stop and seriousness begin? This whole story just screams 'attention' to me

Doogle 12-04-2012 06:39 PM

Death threats are quite scary though because these people could kill the people they threaten, you can't tell if they're just being stupid sometimes.

I know the tweets do sound ridiculous. I can't actually believe that her mother and brother tweeted them back with those comments. If the freak making the threats was serious then their comments would have just antagonised them. Stupid thing to do really. You can't take that chance.

A reality TV serial killer would be a good thing. A sort of Dexter character.

The Dex Factor.
