I can now confirm, the year mainstream music went downhill.

After spending the day watching 'Every Single UK Number One of The Noughties' on MTV...

I can 110% confirm, that 2009 was indeed the year that music lost meaning, and every song begun sounding the same along with the music videos looking the same.

So can we stop all this '2008 was when things got crap' bollocks - because 2008 was actually brilliant in comparison to 2009.

The whole list of Number Ones were amazing, right up until 'June 2009' when JLS came on the scene with 'Beat Again' and now Taio Cruiz is on with 'Break Your Heart.'

Says it all really.

Nar. 2008.

2009 is when UK Hip Hop died and every fool sold out for the Chart Money though.

MTVN 02-07-2012 01:11 AM

Break Your Heart is a great tune

King Gizzard 02-07-2012 01:11 AM

It died long, long before that bro

Jayson 02-07-2012 01:12 AM

I don't like you any more MTVN

Obviously - I just mean when it went off the rails completely and everything became generic and sh*te.

Jayson 02-07-2012 01:13 AM

2009 was also the year MJ died and Justin Bieber came along.

Jords 02-07-2012 01:16 AM

I dont think its been too bad this year.

King Gizzard 02-07-2012 01:17 AM

We need to round up everyone who attends T4 on the Beach and feed them to the lions

Jayson 02-07-2012 01:19 AM

Great idea Nathan, I'll fetch an assortment of Topman shirts to use as bait

Shaun 02-07-2012 01:21 AM

2009 was amazing (if you're looking at music beyond #1s because you can make convincingly bad arguments for every year if you do that).

The XX, Florence + the Machine, VV Brown, Mumford + Sons, Animal Collective, Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Prodigy, Royksopp, Passion Pit, Pet Shop Boys, Paloma Faith, Major Lazer, Noisettes, Lily Allen, Mika, The Leisure Society, Grizzly Bear, Doves, Empire of the Sun, Daniel Merriweather, Biffy Clyro, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bat for Lashes, Basement Jaxx, Arctic Monkeys, Antony + the Johnsons all did great albums.

also had popstars' career highlights:
Lady GaGa - The Fame Monster
Rihanna - Rated R
Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas (the album was 2008 but this was her best song :idc:)
Miley Cyrus - Party in the USA (only good song, let's be honest)

Jayson 02-07-2012 01:25 AM

Whilst that's true Shaun, they're not what most would consider mainstream artists.

Except for the four at the bottom of course.

True - we still have some sh*te like Nicki Minaj trying to interfere and get her first Number One, and people like Rhianna and Bieber bopping about - but we've had some great songs this year TBH.

Soooo over rated, I'm not even kidding I've heard Hannah Montana songs better than this one by Miley

King Gizzard 02-07-2012 01:49 AM

Noddin' ma head like yeaaah

Jayson 02-07-2012 01:57 AM

Well if it's a game of 'Post Random Sh*t' you want, Nathan, then it's a game of 'Post Random Sh*t' you'll get.

The paper read murdaaaa, black on black murdaaaa

I thought 2004-early 2007 in music was really **** as well. At least in America.

Shaun 02-07-2012 03:06 AM

The 1999-2003 wave of British singer-songwriters was horrible. Damien Rice, David Gray, Dido and Travis dominating the charts. **** right off you bland ****s.

Total bubblegum pop too - S Club, Steps, Spice Girls, Atomic Kitten, Blue, Backstreet Boys, Aqua. All occasionally fun for a bit of nostalgia, but all ultimately soulless, artless tack.

And then there was garage and R&B at the same time. Craig David. That man alone is enough to write off the early 00s.

Locke. 02-07-2012 03:11 AM

Damien Rice is boss :nono:

King Gizzard 02-07-2012 03:11 AM

craig david all over your boink

King Gizzard 02-07-2012 03:11 AM

and yes, I liked Damien Rice

Locke. 02-07-2012 03:14 AM

A classic

Jords 02-07-2012 03:45 AM

Nothing wrong with a bit of Dido :pipe:

Shaun 02-07-2012 03:52 AM

yes, the bit in 'Stan' will do :pipe:

and blehhhh Damien Rice. One album wonder. Pretty songs, but nothing interesting.

Novo 02-07-2012 09:07 AM

Craig David :worship:

This came on the Radio the other day actually
