An MP got pissed and started with collegues in a bar. Not the same as being stone cold sober and screaming abuse at polic officers.
I really hope that CCTV footage gets leaked to the press it would make my day!

Know your place you obnoxious tory cockhead.

Marc 21-09-2012 06:22 PM

'plebs' amazing

Livia 21-09-2012 06:27 PM

I'm afraid that's the attitude a lot of MPs have, from all parties. They suffer from the "Don't you know who I am??" syndrome.

Marc 21-09-2012 06:28 PM

Exactly.. look at him on his stupid bike with his stupid hair and stupid attitude :hmph:

Certainly wouldn't find me being arrogant when I'm a MP

"The plebs were the general body of free land-owning Roman citizens (as distinguished from slaves and the capite censi) in Ancient Rome. They were the non-aristocratic class of Rome, and consisted of freed people, shopkeepers, crafts people, skilled or unskilled workers and farmers[1]. Members of the plebs were also distinct from the higher order of the patricians. A member of the plebs was known as a plebeian (play /plɨˈbiːən/; Latin: plebeius). This term is used today to refer to one who is or appears to be of the middle or lower order; however, in Rome plebeians could become quite wealthy and influential."

''Labour said that No 10 must say whether Mitchell was accusing the police officer of lying. "Downing Street must make clear exactly what Andrew Mitchell said to the police officer," a spokesman said.

"There are two alternatives: either the chief whip used appalling and offensive language to an officer going about their duty, or Mr Mitchell is saying the officer is lying.

"Downing Street will know. They must make the position clear urgently. A half-hearted apology is not enough."

Admit what you said you spineless tory fool.

Nedusa 23-09-2012 12:54 PM

This is a total storm in a *******ing teacup, so a Minister had a bad day in the office and took it out on policeman who wouldn't open the gate to let him through with his bike. So a few angry words may have been exchanged , he may have even used the P word.

So what...!!!! Nobody cares it's a minor matter between two adults NOT an International news event tying up half the worlds media when there are other more important news stories not being covered or disclosed to the Public.

What is it with our Society with these political non stories, I mean should a Man an M.P a Minister a man who clearly has something to offer , resign from his post because he called a policeman a pleb ??? Seriously c'mon folks our society is going down the toilet and we are devoting precious time energy and resources on this nonsense..!!!

Pyramid* 23-09-2012 12:56 PM

Much ado about nothing imo.

A man who is known to those at the gates, known to use them on his bicycle, who poses no security threat, is challenged unecessarily by some jumped up idiot in a uniform - the same type of power has gone to their head as may have gone to Mitchell's.

Perhaps the policeman concerned might want to take part in serious police duties and see how offended he gets when he's having dealing with the scum of society - see how he handles what THEY say to him - if he was so offended and a member of the public (which Mitchell is), 'broke the law'.... said police officer is no use at their job as they didn't 'enforce the law that they are paid to'.... didn't arrest him. Just moaned and bitched afterwards.

Not the type of police force I want protecting me. If he's too much of a coward to enforce the laws of the land that he is paid to (if it was SUCH A BIG DEAL TO HIM) - then perhaps he should be considering a career change.......

Kizzy 23-09-2012 01:54 PM

How on earth can anyone in a position of authority such as cheif whip be excused for this disrespectful behavior?
We are told to instill in our children respect for themselves and others, how then can this be reinforced when you have people like this in our government, how can this outburst be justified?

It simply shows how out of touch the 'old boys club' is if they consider that language to the police or anyone else to be acceptable.

arista 23-09-2012 02:13 PM

He says never used Pleb.

F ing - yes

''He is absolutely not accusing anyone of lying.'

'He realises there may be differing versions of what was said but he is adamant he did not use the words he is reported to have used.'

Well someone is lying, and I will bet anything its not Scotland Yard's Diplomatic Protection Group SO6.

Unless the entire convo was captured (or able to be lip read by experts) - its a case of ''He said this, he said that".

Neither were in the right - but imo, the copper was the one at fault - if he's going to cause a hullabahoo: perhaps he should try doing the job he's paid to do: if he and his seniors say that the guy could have been arrested: perhaps actions would speak louder than their empty words.

Disputing what a person said, and confirming what 'you' said: is not lying: it is saying there is a difference in recollection of the actual facts. There is a difference. A person can be mistaken, they can have been unaware, they could have forgotten: none of them constitue lying - it's a difference of how each perceives/d what actually happened.

It's a pretty petty thing to be causing a stink over.....and it does say a lot for Labour if this is all they have to bang on about.

The guy apologised for saying anything out of turn: did the policeman have the decency to do the same I wonder?

Like I said earlier: much ado about nothing really.
