The UK's relevant, hip, current, exciting act for Eurovision 2013 is Bonnie Tyler

Experienced shouter Bonnie Tyler will represent the United Kingdom at the 58th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden.

The song she’ll be singing is ‘Believe In Me’, a song which Popjustice tweeted yesterday but has since been mysteriously removed from the internet.

The song’s written by Desmond Child, Lauren Christy and Diana Vickers hitmaker Chris Braide.

Speaking to a press release, Bonnie said: “I am truly honoured and delighted to be able to represent my country at Eurovision, and especially with such a fabulous song. I promise to give this everything that I’ve got for the UK!”

Bonnie is most famous for ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’, ‘Holding Out For A Hero’, an amazing album with Meat Loaf, and being soaked with piss by over-excited Reading Festival revellers in the 80s.
yay maximum of 30 points again <3

Yes Valid Point

Thought that said the song was written by Diana Vickers.

So did I, I had to read it twice to see that she didn't....

Ryan57 07-03-2013 07:42 AM

It could be worse. It could be some tripe artist that's current.

She should of done Total Eclipse of the Heart.

After the career high of performing on Big Brothers Bit On The Side I can't believe she's doing Eurovision. You don't need this downgrade Bonnie

It must be difficult to work out what the UK needs to do to get in the higher placings in this contest now.

I guess we can only hope for the best but expect little now, after all it is not only the Eastern bloc countries who don't give the UK reasonable or even any votes.
Even close neighbours like France rarely throw any votes our way.

Bonnie Tyler may just succeed where others have failed so badly in recent years.
Having said that if Blue could only come where they did, then we are always now likely going to be one of the also rans near permanently.

I doubt we would ever get a really big star on the current scene to even want to do Eurovision now unlike the past.
An act like One Direction, who for instance have stormed to success all over the place are an act that would likely pull in the votes for Eurovision but probably wouldn't even consider entering.

I like bonnie :hmph:

I don't think the 'radio 1' mindset is applicable to eurovision, as you need someone and something that is appealing across differing cultures.

I've known it was going to be her or Petula Clark for the past 2 weeks, but still had hope it'd be Paloma Faith or Hurts.

FFS. I barely like any songs this year as it is.

Bonnie Tyler has been picked to represent the UK in this year's Eurovision competitio

The 61-year-old star, who found fame nationally with Lost In France in 1976, is hoping to totally eclipse her rivals at the event in Malmo, Sweden, with a song called Believe In Me.

She said: "I am truly honoured and delighted to be able to represent my country at Eurovision and especially with such a fabulous song. I promise to give this everything that I've got for the UK."

The competition will be broadcast live by the BBC on Saturday, May 18.

Tyler's career was almost over before it started when she had surgery to remove nodules from her throat.

But the singer, who was born in South Wales, credits the operation with helping develop her trademark husky vocals.

Her other hits include It's A Heartache and Holding Out For A Hero.

Tyler - who continues to be a chart success in Continental Europe - is hoping she can improve the UK's rating on last year's performance by Engelbert Humperdinck, who scraped into last-but-one place in the contest.

He opened the show in Baku, Azerbaijan, with the ballad Love Will Set You Free, but seemed to have been forgotten by the time voting started, 25 songs later.

The singer, nicknamed The Hump, scored a total of 12 - ending up just one position above Norway.

Critics of the contest say it is no longer a good-hearted singing competition between European nations, but a chance for neighbouring countries to engage in political and strategic voting.
when did she get pick :conf:
