Just experienced my first earthquake!

Only 4.0 on the scale but was only 5km deep. Was a little weird. I was sat at my desk and the floor start trembling and then got a little stronger and then it felt like there were 100 people jumping on a wooden floor.

Scary stuff

Benjamin 17-03-2013 02:31 AM

A little, Auckland rarely gets them as it's not on a fault line, lol. It is however built on several volcanoes and they reckon that could have triggered it.

I remember my first earthquake when i moved to California. It is very unsettling. I've been through at least 15 now though. It still gets my adrenaline pumping, but i don't feel the need to call everyone i know after each one anymore lol.

Congratulations though! Mother Nature is a wild and beautiful beast. (wow that was corny)

Its not nice is it ben?? Even if it was just a small one, it still makes you think!

have experienced a few minor ones in Spain, bit unsettling to say the least.

First tremor you have makes you rethink your values and timing of sitting atop a toilet seat, Ben. Never forget that. Never. ;)

As long as you have clean underpants on there is no shame in running from the building screaming.

I live in the CBD, it'd probably be safer indoors, lol.

That's what scared me Ben... the actual earthquake is a pretty weird sensation, but doesn't last all thatt long, but the fear of another one or big aftershocks scared me I have to say.

It would be unlikely to have another one though... and I'm sure all the buildings where you are are built to withstand quakes. Don't worry, sleep well :)

yeah but you can still create a bit of drama by running out screaming, then running back in, Chicken Little style.

Only few days ago, I was talking with my neighbour that British people were lucky that no severe natural disaster compare with like Japan's tsunami nor earthquake.

Join the club, Ben but I hope no that scale of earthquake like in Japan in future.

Kizzy 17-03-2013 12:23 PM

Me too, there have been a few earthquakes in NZ recently there was a 6.0 at the end of last year I think?
Had one in Leeds once about 3yrs ago lol
