What did you want to be when you grew up?

Some kids had this ideal job that they wanted to do when they were older but I never did... I didn't know what I wanted to do at all when I was growing up and even now I've only really decided that I want to pursue a particular type of career because it'll (hopefully) earn me a lot of money and not because I had any ambition to be there in the first place. How about you guys?

Did you just decide to leave it in the past?

So did I when I was about 14, until I was in a meeting at school with teachers, the headmaster and my parents and one of them asked me what I wanted to do when I left school. When I said a Vet they all laughed hysterically.

When I was a young child I was obsessed with dinosaurs for some reason, I knew the names of them all at about 9 years old.

So yea, i'm now in my 30s earning little more than minimum wage doing a job I hate.

Gotta love the real world. :joker:

A pilot (and I would've carried out my dream had it not been for the 100k you need to go through training)

Is that recent thing? BA paid for my brothers training and then once he qualified they took a percenage out of his salary to ay back the training fees so he didn't actually miss it...if you really want to do that you should look into it...

I wanted to be a nurse....until I discovered I was pretty squeamish.

My nephew wanted to be a lollipop man until he was about 11

I wanted to work in music and hopefully from September that's what I'll be doing

Tozzie 08-08-2013 07:24 PM

when I was young I was never ambitious. Now I am in my 50's I do wish I had gone into mental health nursing. I did consider going for it this year but I found it that it will take me 4 years to complete and by that time I'll be in my late 50s so I forgot that idea. Actually when I think about it there are a number of careers I wish I had considered taking up, mental health nursing or occupational therapist, working with animals in some way, graphic designer just to name a couple.

I always wanted to be a teacher/sports coach and I still do. Although being a psychologist is the other career path that interests me now :)

I don't know how old you are but if you are young enough I'd go for it. Psychology degree would be really interesting I bet.
