Ben Affleck is the new Batman

Ben Affleck is Batman.

The actor will replace Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming untitled Superman-Batman feature for Warner Bros., the studio announced Thursday.

Affleck becomes the eighth actor to play the Caped Crusader, following Bale, George Clooney and Michael Keaton.

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” WB president Greg Silverman said in a statement.

Directed by “Man of Steel” filmmaker Zack Snyder, the Superman-Batman feature will open worldwide on July 17, 2015 with Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Diane Lane reprising their roles.

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” Snyder said in a statement. “I can’t wait to work with him.”

The announcement of a Batman-Superman film was announced last month Comic-con to much excitement and the next thing to look out for is if more of the Justice League team will be added to this cast.

The irony to this news is that at one point Warner Bros. was interested in having Affleck direct the “Justice League” movie and his participation in this film will now spur interest if whether his casting means a possibility of directing that film.

Affleck is repped by WME and can be seen next in Fox and New Regency’s thriller “Runner Runner.”

Step down from Bale but he has proven himself pretty credible in the last couple of years

Shaun 23-08-2013 01:45 AM

oh dear. Can't see that working at all. Haven't seen Man of Steel yet though so shall reserve judgment.

Stupid choice. He has already played Daredevil and tbh I think one actor shouldn't play more than one superhero.

Actually it worked for Chris Evans tbf

Scarlett. 23-08-2013 02:49 AM

Bit of a strange choice, seeing as he played Daredevil.

Samuel. 23-08-2013 02:58 AM

I think he's a good fit myself.

MATT DAMON

****ing awful.

Vomit

He was crap as Daredevil, doubt he'll do Batman any justice at all. I actively avoid Superman films anyway so I won't be watching this.

Christian Bale is a good actor but I really hated him as Batman, I just couldn't get passed that stupid voice he put on. So yeah, I'm happy they're changing

Tom4784 23-08-2013 09:46 AM

He'd make a good Bruce Wayne but a terrible Batman.

agree totally. Bale was a subpar Batman at best

Shaun 23-08-2013 12:41 PM

tbf the most recent trilogy proved that the actor playing Batman really doesn't matter at all, it's the story, production and supporting cast/characters. The actual Batman character just grunts a bit and says the usual spiel about morality.

Yeah, the Villains were the best characters in the trilogy as far as I'm concerned

Roy Mars III 23-08-2013 12:51 PM

I'd have preferred Ryan Gosling or Josh Brolin in all honesty.

Then again everyone thought Heath Ledger was going to make a bad Joker yet he was spectacular, same with Anne Hathaway and Catwoman to a lesser extent.

True, but Ben Affleck has previous form being terrible in the role of a superhero, and he's so hit or miss with his acting it's unbelievable. For the few smattering of great performances he's delivered over the years, he's churned out some real duds. Honestly, before Argo was a success, he was all but forgotten in Hollywood, when was the last time anyone looked forward to or praised a Ben Affleck movie? Pearl Harbour? I dunno... he could be fantastic in the role, but previous form suggests he won't be.

No as thats a failed project.

Ben works Real Hard

I say it will be a Winner

Locke. 23-08-2013 08:54 PM

Daredevil was just a **** film overall, it wasn't Ben Affleck's fault

Z 23-08-2013 09:30 PM

Oh okay I suppose that explains the decade of flop films he starred in apart from Daredevil then :idc:

Yeah Daredevil was a crap film throughout; but he was the leading man and it was a superhero movie, it doesn't inspire confidence in his abilities to carry a superhero film.
