Yorkshire : 'Social' Supermarket Opens To Benefit Claimants

http://media.skynews.com/media/image...-1-522x293.jpg

Video report
http://news.sky.com/story/1179822/so...efit-claimants

[Britain's first 'social' supermarket
has opened in Yorkshire where
those on benefits can buy cut-price
stock from major manufacturers
that otherwise would have
been thrown away.
Members of Community Shop
can buy good quality,
branded goods for a fraction
of the usual shelf price
such as a Warburtons loaf for just 20p,
or a tin of Heinz beans for 29p.
If the scheme being piloted
in the ex-mining community
of Goldthorpe, near Barnsley,
is successful, organisers plan
to roll stores out across the country.
The products from major chains
such as Asda, Marks & Spencer
and Morrisons are fit for consumption
and in-date, but may have been
rejected for a number of reasons,
such as a problem with the labelling,
or as a result of over-stocking.]

This is Clever
much of this food would be chucked away
due to errors on labels,
You must have a DSS Card approved to shop there

No Vicky

This Stuff has Errors on the Print
it can not be sold in normal stores.

It used to go in the tip - can you not see that?

Now it will be sold in New Stores for the very poor.

This is Positive

This is a great idea, criminal that good food goes to landfill, hope they open more of these.

Yes 20 for London Area
soon they say.

Kizzy 09-12-2013 04:15 PM

Sign of the times... MPs with their 11% wage hike won't be needing to shop here will they?
Disgusting that we need these at all... A supermarket for the underclass, unbelievable.

Vicky. 09-12-2013 04:22 PM

Once these open up everywhere, there will be an excuse to cut benefits even further. 'They dont have to pay as much as we do for shopping, so they dont need their whopping £70 per week'. Or even better, these supermarkets can be the ones who take the food stamps :amazed:

I'm a bit confused as to how this will work tbh. Will it be everyone on benefits can use these places? As a lot of people in work are still on benefits (and need them desperately). And also people on 50k+ a year are on benefits too :S

Vicky. 09-12-2013 04:27 PM

Nevermind, goes on total income. Not which benefits and such you get.

It is a good idea. I'm just really wary of anything to do with benefits recently, given this governments track record

Kizzy that will not happen
None of the leaders want it.

Also it after 2015
so they will debate it and Stop it before then

OK take a look when you have sound

Livia 09-12-2013 05:25 PM

It's a good idea. I wonder why it took so long to get something like this up on its feet?

Kizzy 09-12-2013 05:56 PM

Nobody could find a way to make a profit from waste... sorted.

And No MP's
will not take a rise of 11%

Kizzy 09-12-2013 06:29 PM

We'll see, The toffs at the trough don't need a second term anyway they've made enough over the last 3yrs, what was their collective wealth... 70 million?
While others eat what a couple of weeks ago was considered rubbish.... Now THAT'S irony!

You do not watch TV News
or record the hour Daily Politics each day

Every MP has said No.
Every Party Leader has said No.

It will be stopped before 2015
and it was meant to come in after that

Livia 09-12-2013 07:12 PM

You're right, arista. It was IPSA - the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority - that awarded the pay rise, the MPs didn't award it to themselves, and it#s important to remember that the proposed pay rise was awarded to ALL MPs, not just the Tories. It remains to be seen whether MPs agree to it.

Kizzy 09-12-2013 07:20 PM

I do actually arista thankyou. Why suggest it... what are they playing at?

I'm well aware who it was too, MPs were polled, I understand that it doesn't explain why they thought this was a good idea to announce it would be implemented?

MPs do not want that Rise

They need to Close Down Ipsa
or tell them not to do a pay rise

IPSA is a mess. They deal with MPs expenses since the scandal... they're a completely disorganised mess and almost impossible to deal with. It doesn't surprise me they've awarded this pay rise at probably the worst possible time.
