Your top 5 favourite sporting moments in history

They can be from any sporting event - what are your top 5 moments in sport? There are some obvious choices, but it would be nice to see some moments that were a bit more obscure but still meant a lot to you.

I'll post my top 5 later.

Yeah, Andy's Wimbledon win is probably up there! I watched it at the gym and everyone literally stopped what they were doing and all gathered around the TV to watch the final few minutes, it was a great moment!

I think the joint cheer when he finally got it was the best bit, I'd never seen a group of complete strangers all share a moment together like that before!

Yeah I think that was the highlight of last year for me tbh. The Olympics has to be the 2012 highlight

Andy gave one of the best moments of the olympics too, winning the gold!

Him, Jess Ennis and Mo Farrah were definitely my favourite moments from London 2012!

Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool 1989

Unforgettable. Ahh the memories.

Kate! 12-03-2014 11:02 PM

Andy's Wimbledon win - totalky heartwarming

Not a massive sports fan so can't really do a list.

1. Winning Champions League in 2008. Words can't explain what happened to my heart and emotions that night. Never felt like that watching sport ever. Ronaldo at the end was basically me. On the floor overcome with joy and relief.

2. Boston Celtics winning the 2008 title and providing me with the GOAT year of sport.

3. Overtaking Liverpool and winning #19 in 2011.

4. Matching Liverpool at #18 in 2009 and winning three in a row.

5. A whole host of happy moments Man United or the Celtics bought me. Pick one.
---

1999 Champions League would be number 1 If I wasn't too young to fully appreciate it at the time or even remember anything apart from my uncle screaming

Fair shout to the 2012 Olympics too, but it didn't mean anything close to what United or Celtics mean really. Murray was meh especially in comparison tot hose 4 selected for me.

MTVN 12-03-2014 11:11 PM

2005 Ashes win
2009 Ashes win
West Ham's promotion back to the top flight 2005 (& in 2012)
West Ham's survival in the Prem 2007 with Tevez scoring the only goal against United last day of the season
Broncos AFC Championship win 2014

As much as I got really into the Olympics that sort of thing tends to exist only in that moment for me or in those two weeks when it's on and I take a real interest in those sports

Drew. 12-03-2014 11:24 PM

Haven't really got a list, Can't really remember most of Arsenals past success that well because it was so long ago.

The final day of the PL in 2012 was just crazy. Watching the City game live when they won their first PL title with the last kick of the game will go down in history.

Murray winning Wimbledon

Ashes 2005 was great, remember watching nearly all of it with my neighbor.

Ryder Cup victory in 2012 was amazing too, the final day was as tense as i've ever been watching sports.

One of the best moments for me was Lewis Hamilton winning the championship in 2008.. overtook a driver on the last couple of corners to win the championship. Massa was already celebrating.

Kate! 12-03-2014 11:39 PM

I quite enjoy watching the London Marathon, some of the runners are very inspiring.

Lewis. 12-03-2014 11:42 PM

Lewis winning in 2008 was truly brilliant! My family are big F1 fans and they were going wild!

Natalie. 12-03-2014 11:42 PM

I don't really have one really, my footy team is crap but getting promoted was good.
Andy Murray yeah that was good too

Locke. 12-03-2014 11:49 PM

Guaranteed to forget something big, but:

1. Liverpool winning the Champions League in 2005
2. The entire 08/09 season.. Finishing 2nd, Beating Utd 4-1, Beating Madrid 4-0, the 4-4 draws with Arsenal and Chelsea
3. Winning the FA Cup in 2006, good old Gerrard destroying West Ham
4. Beating Everton in the FA Cup semi final a couple of seasons ago, Big Andy getting the winner, great moment
5. Lisicki beating Serena at last years Wimbledon

Cant pick out one moment but watching the dream team in 1992 was something special.

Lewis. 13-03-2014 03:36 AM

Kelly winning gold was a great moment too, more for her sheer delight than anything!

Kate! 13-03-2014 05:40 AM

I used to watch snooker religiously, not so much now and (this makes me feel old lol) I remember the 'best bits' montages they used to put together of funny moments and daft mistakes. Back when Steve Davis had hair, and Stephen Hendry was a spotty kid (bless)

The time Dennis Taylor won the Grand Final was a great moment, he was so emotional and delighted, was lovely to see.

Novo 13-03-2014 06:18 AM

1) Nacho Novo scoring the winning penalty against Fiorentina to take us the final

2) Helicopter Sunday with Novo scoring against Hibs and us taking the lead and Scott McDonald destroying Celtic to ensure the helicopter changed direction on the final day of the season

3) Vika winning her first grand slam title and bageling Maria in the final and the same year destroying Murray and Robson to win Olympic Gold

4) England beating the Aussies and winning the rugby world cup and Wilko hitting the match winning kick in one of the greatest rugby matches ever

5) Kauto Star coming back and winning the George Chase in 2011 to prove he is one of the best ever when nearly everyone wrote him off

6) the 2001 5-1 win over Germany in the World Cup Qualification match, probably the most i have ever enjoyed a second half of a football match

7) Jess Ennis winning Gold, not only because she actually won it but how easy it was for her in a very strong field, every event she was hitting Pbs under immense preasure and in the 400m she didn't need to win but she destroyed the field again

8) Nadal and Federer's 2008 Wimbledon final, the greatest tennis match of all time, both gave everything but Rafa wasn't going to let it slip after losing twice in the final to him alrrady, the deciding set was unreal

9) I don't really remember any of it because it was early 90s but reading her book and watching documentaries and clips Monica Seles coming back from the Stabbing and food disorder and winning a grand slam, despite not being anywhere near her best and never was but just that one moment must have felt amazing

10) Kelly Holmes Double Gold medal in 800m and 1500m in Athens

The friendly game against Argentina where Owen scored 2 last minute goals to win it for us was amazing as well and the whole Seb Coe and Ovett story must have been great to witness as well
