Fact

Cherie 21-05-2014 08:32 AM

Oh dear, he has to go really, Farage has more of a chance of becoming PM than this buffoon. They should have elected the sexy brother.

MTVN 21-05-2014 08:38 AM

Well can't blame him for not caring about Swindon, terrible place

Ever thought of running for PM, I think you would be good at it, just ignoring huge swathes of the Country in favour of keeping your local pub open

Livia 21-05-2014 09:31 AM

I bet the Tories are praying Miliband stays, he's one of their biggest weapons.

I definitely agree with that...........

First rule in Politics when campaigning know all the labour leaders and councillors in the area you are visiting.

Mr Milibands chances of becoming Labour Prime Minister are reducing by the day.

Bang On Right

arista 21-05-2014 11:39 AM

Debated today
on the Daily Politics BBC2

Miliband was in a London Studio
not even in Swindon

joeysteele 21-05-2014 12:00 PM

I have to admit this was a big gaffe, I did find it highly amusing too however.

Better research as to where he is and who are the main people at the forefront of his Party in the area he is in at the time is needed for the future.
It should be the norm but my advice to all parties would be watch out, interviewers now want to get so far off topic they will try any trick to throw them off course.

It was like in the 2010 general election, you had David Cameron praising Gary Barlow as he was supporting the Conservatives but couldn't even say what group he was from.
Politicians need to be on their toes now, possibly more than ever, they cannot all get the likely pre set questioning as to interviews that for some reason Ian Duncan Smith always seems to possibly get so he can have his answers ready.

This was funny and a big gaffe though from Ed Miliband.
Having said that, when politicians do this sort of thing, I think it helps in some way to endear them more to more ordinary voters who then see them as human after all.

Oh dear :laugh2:

Livia 21-05-2014 12:43 PM

He should have had a pack of info thrust into his hand that morning. You can't trust politicians to know stuff... someone ****ed up.

Crimson Dynamo 21-05-2014 12:45 PM

Kizzy 21-05-2014 12:48 PM

Livia 21-05-2014 12:49 PM

'Ere we go.

In his defence as far as he can be defended,I couldn't get why the Labour opposition Councillors name even came up.
Had Jim Grant, whoever he was, been actually running the council then that would have made a little bit more sense.

Just as I wouldn't get why say David Cameron or any party leader, would be asked about a Councillor not responsible for actually running a council.
What do you think of Jim Grant, what sort of question is that anyway.

Surely interviewers have far more srious questions that, when they get a leading politician on their programme, they should and could be asking.
If it was some form of petty entrapment then that is something I am totally against for any politician of any party.

Yes he was in London Studio
so advisers could pass him a note in seconds
but is Sloppy
and Not a PM

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...42_306x423.jpg
while a GMBHD that day

Nedusa 21-05-2014 01:19 PM

Yes I also thought the line of questioning was a bit odd, it's as if the interviewer had a "heads up" that mr miliband would not know the name of the head of the Labour party in the Swindon Council.

He seemed to "ambush" Mr Miliband and take him down a certain path with more questions about this labour Councillor instead of asking him about local issues.

That then is all main UK party leaders not up to the job then, David Cameron,Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage fall well short of getting facts right too I would say.

If every politician wasn't up to the job because they made a gaffe or error even, then no one would or should be elected to Parliament in the first place.
Equally so with leaders,if being perfect and 100% correct in everything you say and do is evidence of competence then we have never had such a leader, likely ever.

I agree but it's never about just getting the odd name wrong, it's more about public perception of the politician and how electable they appear.

If they are error or gaffe prone their electabilty suffers as a result.

My fear for Mr Miliband is that he is fighting a war on two fronts, he already has the problem with his speech and stammer/stutter. So to start making gaffes like the one yesterday really diminishes the perception of him as Prime Minister material in many people's minds.

I never consider any vote I make a wasted one arista,I vote for who I believe to be the most near to how I feel and see society now and where I would hope for it to go.

I learned after voting for the Lib Dems last time that my trust was well and truly betrayed by them so they are gone for me.
I have seen nothing at all,on the issues I really care about, that tells me David Cameron leading the Conservatives have moved an inch nearer the point where I feel I could vote for them.
For me a wasted vote would be me voting for the Conservatives because that is my background as to life and politics.

However,I prefer to consider the whole of society in the big picture and not just a snapshot, there I see regularly the suffering this Govt. has caused and I want to vote to have that halted.
The only party advocating a more compassionate approach to the serious issues I care about is the Labour party and that is why they get my vote.
Not in any way a wasted vote at all, just a more hopeful one than the one I made in 2010..

Aduk 21-05-2014 05:06 PM

Oops, I am a natural Labour voter but even I have to accept that's embarrassing.
